There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LBL.

Seventh-ranked Jelgava (13-18) gave a tough game to first ranked Valmiera (21-12) on Saturday. The visitors from Valmiera managed to secure only two-point victory 76-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 10 points at the halftime before their 31-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Valmiera outrebounded Jelgava 48-34 including 33 on the defensive glass. Guard Janis Kaufmanis (186-89) had a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Janis Berzins (202-93, agency: Players Group) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Valmiera's coach Varis Krumins used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Lauris Mizis (198-89) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Valmiera have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-12 record. Jelgava lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 18 games lost. Valmiera are looking forward to face Liepaja (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jelgava will play against the league's second-placed Barons kvartals in Riga and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
Important game to mention about took place in Riga. Sixth ranked Latvijas Universitate (15-17) saved a 3-point victory at home edging second-ranked Barons kvartals (19-12) 91-88 on Sunday evening. Guard Zanis Peiners (204-90, agency: Interperformances) notched 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Klavs Strazdins supported him with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds by American forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) did not help to save the game for Barons kvartals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Latvijas Universitate maintains sixth position with 15-17 record. Barons kvartals at the other side keep the second place with 12 games lost. Latvijas Universitate will play against Turiba (#9) on the road in the next round. Barons kvartals will play against Jelgava (#7) and hope to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Jekabpils (19-13) against fourth ranked VEF Riga (16-1) on Saturday night. Host Jekabpils were crushed by VEF Riga in Jekabpils 90-63.
