Here is the weekly review of the top performing Lithuanian players, who play currently abroad.


Jonas Maciulis

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Jonas Maciulis (199-85, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Greek team Panathinaikos to a victory over the eighth-ranked Brose Baskets Bamberg (0-13) crushing them 82-60 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Maciulis was MVP of the game. He recorded 24 points in 23 minutes on the court. Panathinaikos Athens (9-4) is placed third in group E. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Euroleague Top 16. And that game will be critical. Maciulis has relatively good stats this year: 11.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 2FGP: 56.2%(41-73), 3FGP: 43.3% and FT: 72.9% in the 23 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Lithuanian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Jonas Valanciunas (211-92, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. Valanciunas could not help the Toronto Raptors (26-45) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the Toronto Raptors were badly defeated 107-88 on the road by the Atlanta Hawks. Valanciunas was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 8 rebounds. This season Valanciunas has relatively solid stats: 7.9ppg, 5.8rpg, 2FGP: 55.4%(163-294) and FT: 76.0%. He is in the roster of the Lithuanian senior national team.

The Lithuanian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Mantas Kalnietis (195-86, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Russia. Kalnietis was not able to help Lokomotiv (12-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the third-placed Lokomotiv was edged 98-95 at home by the lower-ranked (#4) VEF Riga in the group B of VTB United League. Kalnietis scored 15 points and added 4 passes in 26 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Kalnietis' first season with the team. He has reliable stats this year: 14.1ppg, 2.4rpg, 4.2apg, 2FGP: 68.4%(52-76), 3FGP: 36.7% and FT: 81.3% in the 14 games. Kalnietis is also a member of the Lithuanian senior national team.

An experienced power forward Darius Songaila (204-78, agency: Priority Sports, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to a BC Donetsk's victory against the fourth-ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (12-6) 88-80 in the VTB United League in Saturday night's game. He scored 19 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). BC Donetsk (9-9) is placed sixth in group A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Songaila is currently third on the league's list of top scorers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Songaila averages: 16.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.8apg and 1.6spg. He is also Lithuanian national team player.

Former University international center Egidijus Dimsa (205-85, currently plays in Estonia), who plays in the Estonian KML was not able to secure a victory for TU/Rock (18-1) in their last game. Despite Dimsa's very good performance TU/Rock lost 64-69 in Tallinn to the lower-ranked (#3) Kalev/Cramo. He was the top scorer with 18 points. Dimsa also added 8 rebounds in 22 minutes. They ended the series of thirteen consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. This year Dimsa's overall stats are: 8.7ppg and 5.6rpg in the 14 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian university national team four years ago.

Power forward Donatas Motiejunas (213-90, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in NBA) helped Houston Rockets win their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers (22-48) crushing them 116-78 in the NBA on Friday night. Motiejunas scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Houston Rockets have 39-32 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Motiejunas' total stats this season are: 5.4ppg and 1.9rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Lithuanian senior team two years ago.

Former University international center Michailis Anisimovas (214-84, currently plays in Ukraine) helped Budivelnyk win their game against the closely-ranked Mykolaiv (6-6) 76-73 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Friday night's game. Anisimovas scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 23 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Budivelnyk Kyiv (28-10) is placed first in the Superleague. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Anisimovas is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Budivelnyk's roster. He averaged so far 10.2ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.1apg in the 38 games. Anisimovas used to play for the Lithuanian university national team six years ago.

Center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, another player represented by Interperformances, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in VTB United League) faced previously mentioned Mantas Kalnietis in the VTB United League last game. Kavaliauskas helped his Latvian team VEF Riga win their game against the closely-ranked Lokomotiv (12-6) 98-95. He scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. There are only two games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. Kavaliauskas' total stats this season are: 9.5ppg and 5.2rpg. He plays currently for the Lithuanian national team.

   #10. Shooting guard Deividas Dulkys (198-88, college: Florida St., currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LBL couldn't help Barons kvartals (18-11) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Dulkys' very good performance Barons kvartals was defeated 96-89 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Liepaja (#8). He scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Dulkys averaged so far 12.2ppg, 4.2rpg and 2.0apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Lithuanian National Team roster.

   #11. International guard Tomas Delininkaitis (190-82, currently plays in Ukraine), who plays in the Ukrainian Superleague couldn't help Cherkasy (21-18) in their last game. Despite Delininkaitis' very good performance Cherkasy was badly defeated 91-74 in Zaporozhye by the second-ranked Ferro-ZNTU. He was the top scorer with 19 points. Delininkaitis also added 4 rebounds in 30 minutes. Delininkaitis' stats this year are: 13.7ppg, 3.1rpg and 3.2apg in the 26 games. He plays currently for the Lithuanian national team.

   #12. Former U20 international forward Donatas Zavackas (203-80, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in VTB United League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Antanas Kavaliauskas and both played together in the last VTB United League game. Zavackas helped his Latvian team VEF Riga win their game against the closely-ranked Lokomotiv 98-95. He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Zavackas has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.2apg. He used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team back in 2000.

   #13. International small forward Simas Jasaitis (202-82, currently plays in Eurocup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mantas Kalnietis. But that was another game of his team in Eurocup which we would like to mention. Jasaitis couldn't help Lokomotiv in their game against Valencia Basket. He scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 31 minutes. His team lost 63-68. Jasaitis averaged so far 12.5ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.4apg in the 16 games. He is also Lithuanian national team player.

   #14. Former international forward Simonas Serapinas (197-82, currently plays in Ukraine) helped Azovmash win their game against the closely-ranked Khimik 91-79 in the Ukrainian Superleague last Wednesday. Serapinas scored 11 points, had 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Serapinas has averaged so far 5.6ppg and 3.2rpg. He used to play for the Lithuanian national team back in 2004.

   #15. Former U21 international power forward Valdas Dabkus (204-84, currently plays in Poland), who plays in the Polish TBL couldn't help Energa Czarni (13-13) in their last game. Despite Dabkus' good performance Energa Czarni (#6) lost in an overtime 69-78 in Wloclawek to the higher-ranked (#3) Anwil in the Places 1-6 group. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Dabkus also added 6 rebounds in 28 minutes. Dabkus has averaged so far 8.8ppg and 7.1rpg in the 26 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U21 national team ten years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Lithuanian passport but never been selected to any of Lithuanian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Christopher Young (206-F/C-79, agency: Court Side, college: Michigan, currently plays in Belgium), who plays in the Belgian Ethias League could not help Okapi Aalstar (14-8) to beat Spirou Charleroi (14-7). Young recorded 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and made 2 blocks. Okapi Aalstar was defeated 91-86 on the road by the second-ranked Spirou Charleroi. It was Okapi Aalstar's first loss after four consecutive victories. Young is currently fourth on the league's list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (fifth place). He has averaged so far 8.4ppg and 6.6rpg. Young is a naturalized American. Strangely he has never played in Lithuania.

   #2. Arturas Masiulis (210-C-80, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL was not able to help Worcester Wolves (17-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Masiulis' good performance Worcester Wolves was defeated 91-82 in Manchester by the lower-ranked Giants (#9). He was the second best scorer with 12 points. Masiulis also added 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. Masiulis belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #4. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.3ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3bpg.

   #3. Edgaras Kvedaravicius (191-G-92, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to a Horsens IC's victory against the closely-ranked Bakken (21-6) 82-78 in the Danish Ligaen last Thursday. Kvedaravicius scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Horsens IC (19-8) is placed third in the Ligaen. Kvedaravicius has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 2.3rpg.

   #4. Nik Stauskas (198-G-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Michigan win their game against the Virginia Commonwealth University crushing them 78-53 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 3 on Saturday night. He recorded 8 points in 31 minutes. The University of Michigan has a solid 12-6 conference record this season. Stauskas' team will play only one more game in the NCAA National Tournament Round 3. Stauskas has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 2.3rpg in the 15 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Lithuanian. Despite Stauskas' Lithuanian passport, he previously played for the Canadian U19 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Lithuanian team.

   #5. Deividas Busma (212-C-87, agency: Two Points, college: Idaho St., currently plays in Spain) helped CB Clavijo win their game against the league leader River Andorra (20-3) 79-72 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Friday night. Busma scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 19 minutes. CB Clavijo (10-13) is placed seventh in the LEB Gold. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Busma has averaged so far 8.1ppg and 4.8rpg in the 16 games.

   #6. Zygimantas Jonusas (200-F-82, currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for Juvecaserta in their game against VL Pesaro in the Italian SerieA. He scored 5 points. His team was defeated 77-66. Jonusas has averaged so far 8.7ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.2spg.

   #7. Evaldas Juozapaitis (189-G-84, currently plays in Sweden) led Hoganas to a victory over the fifth-ranked Jarfalla 91-87 in the Swedish Basketettan (second division) last Saturday. He was the best player in that game. Juozapaitis recorded 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. Juozapaitis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.6apg and 1.8spg in the 21 games.

   #8. Mantas Griskenas (200-F-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Romania), who plays in the Romanian Liga Nationala couldn't help CSU Sibiu (14-15) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Griskenas' good performance CSU Sibiu was defeated 88-74 at home by the lower-ranked Targu Mures (#11). He scored 10 points. Griskenas has averaged so far 9.1ppg and 4.9rpg.

   #9. Martynas Kuksta (203-C-89, currently plays in Sweden) is a teammate of previously mentioned Evaldas Juozapaitis and both played together in the last Swedish Basketettan game. Kuksta was the major contributor in Hoganas' victory against the fifth-ranked Jarfalla 91-87. He recorded 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and made 4 blocks in 30 minutes. Kuksta is currently second on the list of best blockers with 1.9bpg. This year his other stats are: 15.3ppg and 7.8rpg in the 22 games.

Lithuania - Romania 97:64 Lithuania overcame Romania in the latest test game. Jonas Valanciunas (213-C-92) scored 16 points to lead the winners. Lithuania recorded a 23:12 lead after ten minutes. They stayed in front throughout the second term. The Baltic side grabbed a 48:25 halftime lead. Lithuania sank 21 points in the third term to take a 28-point advantage at the final break.
