Lietuvos rytas (10-2) outlasted Zalgiris (9-2) in overtime by three points 73-70 on Saturday night. The game took place in Kaunas. But the guests from Vilnius were better at the end. Worth to mention a great performance of Eimantas Bendzius who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Defending champion Zalgiris dropped to the seventh position with two games lost.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by Aurimas Kieza of Siauliai.


Zalgiris - Lietuvos rytas 70-73 OT

Lietuvos rytas (10-2) outlasted Zalgiris (9-2) in overtime by three points 73-70 on Saturday night. The game took place in Kaunas. But the guests from Vilnius were better at the end. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 23-19 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 3-point victory in overtime. Lietuvos rytas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Zalgiris was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Eimantas Bendzius (203-90) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 4 assists and the former international Renaldas Seibutis (198-85) who added 17 points during the contest. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas (205-89) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and American guard Oliver Lafayette (188-84, college: Houston) scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Very expected game in Vilnius where 11th ranked Sakalai (5-15) was crushed by first ranked Rudupis (16-4) 88-61 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Rudupis. Sakalai was better in second period 25-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rudupis forced 21 Sakalai turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Gediminas Orelikas (200-90) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) who added 18 points during the contest. At the losing side forward Saulius Kulvietis (203-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and Jokubas Gintvainis (191-94) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Rudupis maintains first position with 16-4 record, which they share with Neptunas. Sakalai at the other side dropped to the tenth place with 15 games lost.

Very predictable result in Klaipeda where second ranked Neptunas (16-4) smashed 8th ranked Nevezis (8-11) 102-61 on Friday. The game without a history. Neptunas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 38. Neptunas forced 23 Nevezis turnovers and outrebounded them 43-24 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Nevezis was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Martynas Mazeika (191-85, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Valdas Vasylius (203-83, college: ODU) who added 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. Neptunas' coach Kazys Maksvytis felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Andrius Aleksandrovas (197-86) responded with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (188-89) scored 7 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Neptunas keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Rudupis. Nevezis lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 11 games lost.

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Siauliai and one of their biggest challengers Juventus had identical 11-8 record. This time Siauliai used a home court advantage and rolled over the opponent from Utena 112-74 on Friday night. The game was mostly controlled by Siauliai. Juventus was better in third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai shot 61.5 percent from the field and made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Siauliai looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. They outrebounded LSU-Baltai 35-20 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds.
