The new season in Erste Basketball League will officially start to Saturday and according to the results achieved in the preseason its going to be an interesting one. Eurobasket.com did an analysis of all teams participating in the Elite Divisions and published a poll for all visitors who were able to share their opinion about potential surprises this year. The poll was online for a month and here are the results- 1st Teodo (57%), 2nd Sutjeska (18%), 3rd Ulcinj (8%). Lets now see all teams in alphabetical order:

BC Centar Bijelo Polje

The newcomer proved in the preseason and in the season opening against Teodo that they would not be an easy task for any team in the League. The roster is reinforced with US point guard Aaron Mitchell (187-G, college: Longwood) and together with the old faces Rickey Young (204-F/C-90, college: W.Virginia Tech) and Dusan Korac (210-C-91) he will try to lead the team to mid table finish this season. When they find some team chemistry they will surprise many teams this year.

BC Danilovgrad

The club from Danilovgrad had a lot of financial difficulties last season and they struggled during the most part of the season. They made some changes during the summer and probably they will add some players duing the season so its hard to talk now about their potential.

BC Ibar Rozaje

Another newcomer in the League who is expected to bring some new energy and revive basketball in the Northern part of Montenegro. The biggest signing is Brandon Roberson (180-G, college: Missouri Baptist) who worked out with some ACB teams during the summer, but there is also Zivojin Grubovic (207-C-85) who came from Mediteran Podgorica. It will be hard to beat them in Rozaje this year but most players do not have D1 experience so they will probably have many ups and downs during the year.

BC Jedinstvo

Jedinstvo is another team which will need to strengthen its roster during the year because they were pretty much inactive during the signing season. As things stand now, they will fight to avoid relegation but the situation can change during the season depending on the newcomers and their financial situation because the Municipality made a promise during the summer that they would reorganize the club soon.

BC Lovcen

One of the clubs with biggest tradition, former Balkan league Finalist, BC Lovcen enters the season with an even younger team than they had last year. They force under the basket and one of the most valuable players in the League, Milos Lopicic (216-C-90) moved to Poland and the Club replaced him with Ljeko Nicaj (210-C-87) who also had a great season in Podgorica last year. Youngsters such as Masan Vrbica (190-G-94) and Petar Popovic (188-PG-96) will get a chance for sure and Lovcen can make some surprises this year because nobody puts pressure on them.

BC Mornar Bar

Mornar will play again in two championships- Balkan League and domestic league, but this season they decided to cut their budget costs and concentrate on promoting youth players. The newcomers are Nemanja Milosevic (204-F/C-87, agency: Interperformances, college: W.Kentucky) from Buducnost, Milos Djurisic (194-G-88, agency: TSS Management) from Ulcinj and Nikola Rondovic (207-F-91, agency: Interperformances) from Teodo but coach Mihailo Pavicevic will also count on junior national team members such as Andrej Pajovic (188-G-92) and Milija Mikovic (205-C-94) and former player of Red Star Belgrade Lazar Radosavljevic (204-F-91, agency: Beo Basket). They are expected to perform well and finish in the top part of the table even this year.

BC Primorje 1945

The club from Herceg Novi saw some changes in the management and the time will show the effects of that decision. In any case, the Club got some reinforcements ( Vaso Popovic (184-G-94), Bojan Ratkovic (181-PG-92) etc) and although their real strength is still unknown they will look to surprise some stronger teams and achieve a mid table position this year.

BC Sutjeska

The curiosity about this team is that all players are born and raised in Niksic and its their tradition because last year their reached the League Finals with all 12 players raised in Niksics youth teams which is something worth to be mentioned. Sutjeska saw the departure of its two best players- Vladan Jocovic (211-C-82) and Nemanja Vranjes (188-G-88) but with the new blood they got they will be a strong candidate for the Top league finish.

BC Teodo

Teodo will participate for the first time in its brief history in an international competition- Balkan League, and in order to represent the town in a good way, the ambitios management led by Misko Lucic decided to bring a new coach (Slobodan Savovic ) and some experienced players and strengthen the roster. As things stand now, Teodo will be very strong under the basket with Savo Djikanovic (211-C-75, agency: Beo Basket), a 37 year old who is probably the biggest start in the League at the moment, and Manuel Johnson (201-F-83, agency: Court Side, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.), former All Star player in Portugal and Forward of the Year in 2010. Along with Aleksandar Radulovic (207-C-84) who played for Teodo last year and experienced Bojan Boskovic (203-C-85) it is probably the best frontcourt in the League. The club also can count on Marko Mijovic (188-G-87) and the captain Srdjan Subotic (195-G-88) in the backcourt so Teodo is expected to achieve the Top League position before the Play-offs start but it will depend a;so a lot on the tiredness level because they also play in the Balkan League this year.

BC Ulcinj

Ulcinj did not have a successful season last year and the management led by Ilir Taflaj decided to make some changes before the season start. The club parted ways with some experienced players and brought new names such as Dusan Milosevic (198-G-91, agency: BeoExcell) and Lazar Simonovic (185-G-82) hoping that this year they would be able to promote some youngsters from their youth team as well. They are expected to fight for Superleague promotion even this year.

We bring you last week's top performances from Montenegrins who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket). He could not help Valencia Basket (23-9) in their last game. Despite Dubljevic's very good performance Valencia Basket was edged 70-67 on the road by the lower-ranked (#9) UCAM Murcia.    [read more]
