Jelena Dubljevic's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Montenegrins playing currently abroad - Mar 9, 2013

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Montenegrin players, who play currently abroad.


Jelena Dubljevic

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Jelena Dubljevic (191-87, currently plays in Czech Republic). She led USK Praha to an easy victory against the third-ranked Sokol Hradec Kralove (18-6) crushing them 103-60 in the Czech Republic ZBL in Saturday night's game. Dubljevic had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds in 21 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group A1. ZVVZ USK Praha (23-1) is placed first. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. It's Dubljevic's first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 11.1ppg, 6.7rpg, 2.0apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 60.5%(89-147), 3FGP: 19.0% and FT: 90.3%(65-72) in the 23 games she played so far. Dubljevic is currently a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Ana Turcinovic (190-93, currently plays in Turkey). She was the major contributor in Antakya's victory against the league outsider Edremit (1-21) 86-69 in the Turkish TKBL last Wednesday. Turcinovic recorded 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Homend Antakya Belediyesi (11-11) is placed seventh in the TKBL. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Turcinovic has relatively solid stats: 12.2ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 42.7% and FT: 73.3%. She is in the roster of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #3. The Montenegrin player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international guard Jelena Skerovic (176-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jelena Dubljevic and both played together in the last Czech Republic ZBL game. Skerovic contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Sokol Hradec Kralove (18-6) crushing them 103-60. She scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. Skerovic is currently first on the list of best passers with 4.4apg. This year her other stats are: 5.7ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 46.9%, 3FGP: 51.2%(22-43) and FT: 85.7% in the 24 games. Skerovic is also a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #4. Power forward Iva Perovanovic (188-83, currently plays in Russia) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Spartak Noginsk (3-12) crushing them 96-59 in the Russian PBL in Sunday night's game. She recorded 6 points. Nadezhda Orenburg (11-5) is placed fourth in the PBL. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Perovanovic's overall stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 5.1rpg and 1.1apg. She is also Montenegrin national team player.

   #5. Former international shooting guard Anna De Forge (178-76, also represented by Josep and Nicolas, college: Nebraska, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jelena Dubljevic. She played also in the last Czech Republic ZBL game facing Jelena Skerovic (above) in the other team. De Forge managed to help ZVVZ USK Praha in a victory against the third-ranked Sokol Hradec Kralove (18-6) crushing them 103-60. She scored only 4 points and added 3 passes in 19 minutes. This year De Forge's overall stats are: 8.7ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.8apg and 1.2spg in the 19 games. She is a naturalized American. De Forge used to play for the Montenegrin national team two years ago. Strangely she has never played in Montenegro.

   #6. Forward Milka Bjelica (193-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL could not help Besiktas (12-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Bjelica's good performance Besiktas was defeated 80-73 on the road by the lower-ranked Botas (#9). She scored 13 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. Bjelica has individually a very good season with high stats. She averages: 16.8ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.9apg and 2.2spg. Bjelica is a former international player as she played for the Montenegrin senior team two years ago.

   #7. International power forward Milica Jovanovic (189-89, currently plays in Turkey) is a teammate of previously mentioned Milka Bjelica and both played together in the last Turkish TKBL game. Jovanovic, who plays in the Turkish TKBL was not able to help Besiktas (12-8) in their last game. Despite her good performance Besiktas lost 73-80 in Adana to the lower-ranked (#9) Botas. Jovanovic scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 35 minutes. Jovanovic is ranked seventh on the list of the top scorers in the league with 15.9ppg. She also averaged so far 5.3rpg, 2.1apg and 1.6spg in the 21 games. Jovanovic is also Montenegrin national team player.

   #8. Guard Jasmina Bigovic (174-79, currently plays in Russia) was not able to secure a victory for Spartak Noginsk (3-12) in their game against Spartak Vidnoye (11-4) in the Russian PBL. She cannot count Wednesday's game as one of the best ones. Bigovic scored only 3 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes. Spartak Noginsk was crushed 81-40 in Vidnoye by the higher-ranked (#3) Spartak. It was Spartak Noginsk's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Bigovic's total stats are: 4.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3spg in the 15 games. She plays currently for the Montenegrin national team.

   #9. International power forward Sanja Knezevic (188-84, currently plays in Romania) contributed to an Sp.Studentesc's surprising victory against the league leader Oradea (21-4) crushing them 80-52 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Monday night's game. Knezevic scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. CSM Sportul Studentesc Bucuresti (10-13) is placed eighth in the Liga Nationala. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. Knezevic has averaged so far 7.2ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.1apg. She is also in the roster of the Montenegrin national team.

   #10. Center Hajdana Radunovic (192-78, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Priolo (6-10) in their game against Familia Schio (15-1) in the Italian A1. Radunovic cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. She scored only 1 points in 16 minutes. Priolo lost 61-76 in Schio to the leading Familia. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Radunovic has averaged so far 6.5ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.2spg in the six games. She is a former international player as three years ago she still played for the Montenegrin senior national team.

Mirjana Beronja (170-PG-86, currently plays in Adriatic League) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked PEAC-PECS (14-6) crushing them 68-43 in the Adriatic League last Saturday. She recorded 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Radivoj Korac Beograd (16-4) is placed second in group T. It was her team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Beronja's total stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.4apg and 1.8spg.

Montenegro once again defeated Slovenia, 70-62, in their last warm-up game before the European Championship in Czech. Iva Perovanovic (188-C/F-83) scored 25 points and Angelica Robinson(197-F-87, college: Georgia) added 18. Montenegro opened the game with nine straight points and led 16-4 midway through the first quarter. Montengro defeated Slovenia 72-59 in Podgorica for their second win in pre-European Championship warmups. Milica Jovanovic (189-F/C-89) scored 28 points on shooting 11-of-14 from the field including 6-of-8 behind the 3-point arc. Irena Matovic (186-F-88), Angelica Robinson (197-F-87, college: Georgia) and Kristina Rakovic (186-F/C-94) all aded 10 points. Jelena Dubljevic will miss EuroBasket - 24 days ago
Jelena Dubljevic(191-C-87) will not play at the European Championship for the Montenegrin national team. WNBA champion injured her foot during the warm-up game against Canada and will be sidelined eight weeks. Dubljevic has spent the past three seasons playing in Turkey with Galatasaray and Abdullah Gul University Kayseri.
