Here is the weekly review of the top performing Polish players, who play currently abroad.


Maciej Lampe

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85, currently plays in Euroleague). He was the major contributor in a Caja Laboral's victory against the closely-ranked Khimky (7-6) 86-82 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. Lampe recorded 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes on the court. Caja Laboral Vitoria (7-6) is placed sixth in group F. His team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Top 16. And that game will be critical. Lampe is currently third on the league's list of best rebounders with 6.0rpg. He also averaged so far 13.8ppg, 2FGP: 50.2%, 3FGP: 32.5% and FT: 78.3% in the 23 games he played so far. Lampe has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish. He is currently a member of the Polish senior national team.

David Logan

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard David Logan (185-82, college: Indianapolis, currently plays in Euroleague). Logan led his Israeli team Maccabi T-A to a victory over the closely-ranked Olympiacos (8-5) 73-67 in the Euroleague last Friday. He was MVP of the game. Logan scored 20 points. Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv (8-5) is placed second in group F. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Euroleague Top 16. And now that game is very crucial. It's Logan's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 10.6ppg, 2.4rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 56.9%(41-72), 3FGP: 44.1%. Logan is a naturalized American. He played for the Polish national team in 2009. Logan used to play for WTK Anwil Wloclawek in Polish league.

   #3. The Polish player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international forward Michal Ignerski (207-80, agency: Stanley International, college: Mississippi St., currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA. He could not help Banco di Sardegna Sassari (18-6) in their last game. Despite Ignerski's very good performance Banco di Sardegna Sassari was badly defeated 108-91 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#9) Vanoli Cremona. He was the second best scorer with 23 points in 38 minutes. This year Ignerski has relatively solid stats: 13.1ppg, 5.1rpg, 2FGP: 55.4%(82-148), 3FGP: 31.5% and FT: 69.7% in the 24 games. He is also a member of the Polish senior national team.

   #4. Swingman Thomas Kelati (195-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Washington St., currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to a Valencia Basket's victory against the leader Lokomotiv (5-1) 68-63 in the Eurocup in Tuesday night's game. Kelati scored 10 points. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group J. Valencia Basket (4-2) is placed second. This season Kelati averages: 9.8ppg, 2.2rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Eritrean and Polish. Kelati is also Polish national team player.

   #5. Former international center Michal Hlebowicki (204-76, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LBL was not able to help Jekabpils (19-11) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the league leader Jekabpils was crushed 94-73 in Riga by the lower-ranked (#5) Latvijas Universitate. Hlebowicki was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Hlebowicki's overall stats are: 9.8ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.1apg in the 29 games. He used to play for the Polish national team eleven years ago.

Center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82, currently plays in Italy) helped Umana Venezia win their game against the league outsider Angelico Biella (5-19) crushing them 97-62 in the Italian SerieA on Sunday night. Szewczyk scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. Umana Reyer Venezia (12-12) is placed eighth in the SerieA. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Szewczyk has reliable stats this year: 11.9ppg and 5.5rpg in the 22 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Polish National Team roster.

International power forward Jakub Wojciechowski (210-90, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) was not able to secure a victory for Torino (23-6) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Wojciechowski's very good performance the league leader Torino was defeated 67-58 in San Severo by the much lower-ranked Mazzeo (#17). He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 11 rebounds. Wojciechowski has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.7ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.1spg. Wojciechowski is also Polish national team player.

Point guard Robert Skibniewski (183-83, currently plays in Slovakia) helped Inter Bratislava win their game against the closely-ranked SKP Banska Bystrica (15-17) 99-91 in the Slovakian Extraliga last Wednesday. He scored 15 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 31 minutes. BK Inter Bratislava (17-15) is placed fourth in the Extraliga. This year Skibniewski's total stats are: 7.4ppg, 2.4rpg, 5.2apg and 1.4spg in the five games. He plays currently for the Polish national team.

   #9. Former U20 international power forward Jakub Parzenski (212-91, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Oknoplast BO (8-15) in their game against Lottomatica Roma (17-7) in the Italian SerieA. Parzenski scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Oknoplast BO was badly defeated 90-70 in Roma by the much higher-ranked Lottomatica (#3). Parzenski has averaged so far 1.8ppg and 1.5rpg. He used to play for the Polish U20 national team two years ago.

   #10. Center Pawel Mroz (215-84, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic NBL couldn't help Basketbal Svitavy (10-24) in their last game. Despite Mroz's very good performance the sixth-placed Basketbal Svitavy was badly defeated 87-68 in Chomutov by the higher-ranked (#4) Levharti in the Group A2. He was the top scorer with 18 points in 21 minutes. It was Basketbal Svitavy's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. Mroz's stats this year are: 14.9ppg and 6.2rpg in the 32 games. He is a former U18 international player as eleven years ago he still played for the Polish national team.

   #11. Former international center Cezary Trybanski (218-79, currently plays in Lithuania) helped Dzukija edge the seventh-ranked Zanavykas 96-94 in the Lithuanian NKL (second division) last Saturday. Trybanski scored 11 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Trybanski is ranked second on the list of the best rebounders in the league and also on the list of best blockers (first place). He has very reliable stats this season: 12.7ppg, 9.9rpg and 3.2bpg. Trybanski used to play for the Polish national team twelve years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Polish passport but never been selected to any of Polish national teams:

   #1. Vitaliy Kovalenko (203-F-84, currently plays in Ukraine) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider BC Kyiv (9-30) crushing them 85-65 in the Ukrainian Superleague on Friday night. Kovalenko scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (23-14) is placed fifth in the Superleague. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Kovalenko's total stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.1apg. He has a dual citizenship: Polish and Ukrainian.

   #2. Robert Lewandowski (208-F-89, college: Texas Tech, currently plays in Czech Republic) led BK Usti nad Labem to a victory over the fifth-ranked BK Lions Hradec (10-24) 93-85 in the Czech Republic NBL in Sunday night's game. Lewandowski was the best player in that game. He scored 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 30 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Lewandowski's third season in pro basketball. SLUNETA Usti nad Labem (10-24) is placed seventh in Group A2. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. Lewandowski has reliable stats this year: 13.3ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.6apg in the 19 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Lewandowski used to play for PGE Turow Zgorzelec in Polish league.

   #3. Konrad Wysocki (201-F-82, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Princeton, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German BBL could not help EWE Baskets (17-8) to beat Phoenix Hagen (14-13). He recorded 5 points. EWE Baskets was defeated 73-67 on the road by the lower-ranked Phoenix Hagen (#8). It was EWE Baskets' first loss after four consecutive victories. Wysocki's total stats this season are: 7.3ppg and 3.0rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and German.

   #4. Patrick Wischnewski (191-G-87, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Leitershofen's surprising victory against the leader SG Schwelmer Baskets (17-5) 88-85 in the German ProB (third division) on Saturday night. He scored 10 points in 28 minutes. BG Topstar Leitershofen/Stadtbergen (10-12) is placed eighth in Group South. Wischnewski averaged so far 13.7ppg and 1.5rpg in the 23 games. He has both German and Polish nationalities. Despite Wischnewski's Polish passport, he previously played for the German U16 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Polish team.

   #5. Maciej Baginski (195-SF-95, currently plays in Iceland) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Snaefell (16-6) 105-90 in the Icelandic Dominos League in Monday night's game. Baginski scored 7 points. UMFN Njardvik (12-10) is placed sixth in the Dominos League. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Baginski is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Njardvik's roster. He has averaged so far 7.6ppg and 2.8rpg. Baginski also holds two passports: Polish and Icelandic. Despite his Polish nationality, Baginski currently plays for the Icelandic U18 national team and cannot be called to the Polish team.

   #6. Patryk Bajtus (206-C-91, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help Barcelos in their game against Academica in the Portuguese LPB. He recorded only 4 points in 20 minutes. His team lost 74-81. Bajtus has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 4.2rpg in the 11 games.

   #7. Tomasz Adrian Szewczyk (185-F-92, currently plays in Germany) managed to help Crailsheim Merlins to win against the closely-ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha 88-73 in the German ProA (second division) on Thursday night. He scored only 2 points. This season Szewczyk averages just 0.3ppg. He has Polish and German nationalities.

   #8. Daniel Sosnitzki (F-89, currently plays in Israel) was not able to secure a victory for Hapoel Kfar Saba in their game against Ironi Nes-Ziona in the Israeli National League (second division). Sosnitzki cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 1 points in 6 minutes on the court. His team was crushed by 30 points 100-70. This year Sosnitzki averages just 0.3ppg in the three games. He has dual citizenship: Polish and Israeli.

KSK Notec Inowroclaw (1Liga) signed 28-year old center Lukasz Paul (205-89) from Astoria Bydgoszcz. In 18 1Liga games he had 5.6ppg and 3.6rpg last season. Paul also played that season for SKK Siedlce where in 13 1Liga games he recorded 4.8ppg and 2.5rpg. Paul has played previously for seven other teams: Siarka, GTK, Asseco, Polpharma, Sokol Lancut, Krosno and Polpharma. UBSC Raiffeisen Graz (A Bundesliga) signed 23-year old American center Darien Nelson-Henry (211-120kg-94, college: Pennsylvania). He played most recently at Siarka in Polish PLK league, but left the team in Nov.'16. In 7 TBL games he had 5.0ppg and 2.7rpg last season. Nelson-Henry was named to All-Ivy League 2nd Team in 2016. Anwil Wloclawek (PLK) re-signed 28-year old Croatian international center Josip Sobin (203-89, agency: Alti Sport). He played there last season. In 37 PLK games he averaged 10.9ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.6apg and 1.1spg. Sobin helped them to win the regular season. They also played in the Cup final.
