The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute susprises and upsets.

LPB top team - Benfica (15-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Sampaense (8-8) in Coimbra 88-55. The game without a history. Benfica led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Sampaense's 28. Benfica forced 23 Sampaense turnovers and outrebounded them 38-26 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for guard LaceDarius Dunn (193-87, college: Baylor, agency: Three Eye Sports) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). point guard Ricky Franklin (185-87, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Green Bay) replied with 13 points and 7 rebounds for Sampaense. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Benfica have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-1 record. Sampaense at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. Benfica are looking forward to face Vitoria SC (#5) in Guimaraes in the next round. Sampaense will play on the road against Alges and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
The game in Angra was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Academica (11-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Lusitania (5-11). Academica defeated Lusitania 76-61. The former international point guard Mario Fernandes (176-82) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Arnette Hallman chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Durrell Nevels (198-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Academica moved-up to third place, which they share with Ovarense. Lusitania at the other side keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Fisica. Academica will play against Barcelos (#7) at home in the next round. Lusitania will play against the league's second-placed CAB Madeira in Funchal and hopes to get back on the winning track.
