Joao Gomes
The teams have now bigger motivation at this stage of Regular Season. Every game can be crucial and decide about teams' position at the end of Regular Season. The round 19 was rather boring as all games ended with very predictable results.

LPB top team - Benfica (16-1) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked Vitoria SC (9-8) 75-63. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Vitoria SC. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Vitoria SC managed to win fourth quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Benfica dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Vitoria SC's 30. Benfica forced 23 Vitoria SC turnovers and outrebounded them 43-31 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international Joao Gomes (201-85) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. American forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St.) helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Benfica have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 16-1 record. Vitoria SC at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Sampaense. Benfica are looking forward to face Fisica (#9) in Torres Vedras in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vitoria SC will play at home against Alges (#10) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Second ranked CAB Madeira (13-3) beat at home 9th ranked Fisica (5-12) by 12 points 81-69, which is the biggest margin this round. It was a quality performance for American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 8 assists. Fabio Lima accounted for 15 points and 10 rebounds. Edson Rosario (193-82) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds for Fisica in the defeat. Fisica's coach Ivan Kostourkov rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for CAB Madeira. They maintain second place with 13-3 record having four points less than leader Benfica. Newly promoted Fisica keeps the ninth position with 12 games lost. CAB Madeira will play against bottom-ranked Galitos-Tley (#11) in Barreiro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fisica will play at home against the league's leader Benfica and hopes to get back on the winning track.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 19: Sampaense won against Alges on the opponent's court 75-69. Academica managed to outperform Barcelos in a home game 81-74. Bottom-ranked Galitos-Tley recorded a loss to Ovarense on the road 92-83. Ovarense defeated Barcelos on its own court 80-75.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points and 12 rebounds by Jamarkus Holt of Alges.

Alges - Sampaense 69-75

Very expected game when 10th ranked Alges (2-15) were defeated at home by sixth ranked Sampaense (9-8) 75-69. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Sampaense made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Green Bay) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Naturalized Serbian Stefan Djukic (201-89, agency: Dynamics Global Management) accounted for 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Baker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Sampaense will play against higher ranked Academica (#4) in Coimbra in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
