Academica - Sampaense 79-41

Academica rallied past Sampaense to take the lead in the quarterfinal series. The game without a history. Academica led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Sampaense to just 4 points in second quarter. Academica held Sampaense to an opponent 23.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 55.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Academica had a 35-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Sampaense's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Academica made 8 blocks. Polish center Szymon Lukasiak (208-87, college: Jacksonville) stepped up and scored 19 points and 4 blocks for the winners and American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) chipped in 4 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Benfica left no chance for visiting Lusitania in the series opener. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Lusitania managed to win fourth quarter 30-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Lusitania 35-22 including 24 on the defensive glass.
