Academica - Sampaense 79-41

Academica rallied past Sampaense to take the lead in the quarterfinal series. The game without a history. Academica led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Sampaense to just 4 points in second quarter. Academica held Sampaense to an opponent 23.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 55.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Academica had a 35-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Sampaense's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Academica made 8 blocks. Polish center Szymon Lukasiak (208-87, college: Jacksonville) stepped up and scored 19 points and 4 blocks for the winners and American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) chipped in 4 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Academica players scored in double figures. At the losing side naturalized Serbian Stefan Djukic (201-89, agency: Dynamics Global Management) responded with 5 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Carlos Ferreirinho (200-91) scored 6 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Benfica left no chance for visiting Lusitania in the series opener. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Lusitania managed to win fourth quarter 30-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Lusitania 35-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. American guard LaceDarius Dunn (193-87, college: Baylor, agency: Three Eye Sports) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 assists for the winners and international center Claudio Fonseca (206-89) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Five Benfica players scored in double figures. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American guard John Huggins (188-82, college: Amer.Internat.) responded with 31 points and forward Mohamed Camara (196-83) scored 7 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Ovarense Dolce Vita (LPB) strengthened their roster with addition of 23-year old small forward Jose Miranda (189-94) from Illiabum. In 24 LPB games he recorded 3.2ppg last season. Miranda ended the previous (2015-16) season at FC Porto_Ferpinta. But in two LPB games he did not score anything and had only 2 rebounds and 2 steals.
