There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LPB.

The most exciting game of round 20 in the LPB took place in Barcelos. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 7th ranked Barcelos (7-11) to eighth ranked Lusitania (6-11) 64-63 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 19-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Durrell Nevels (198-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) who scored 9 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import center Marcel Momplaisir (205-81, college: Rhode Island) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. International point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Lusitania maintains eighth position with 6-11 record. Barcelos lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. Lusitania are looking forward to face higher ranked Sampaense (#6) in Coimbra in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Barcelos will have a break next round.
Leader Benfica delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they beat 9th ranked Fisica (5-13) 70-56 in Torres Vedras. The former international Joao Gomes (201-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). LaceDarius Dunn contributed with 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. point guard Carlos Barroca (182-84) replied with 16 points for Fisica. Benfica (17-1) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position. Fisica lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 13 games lost. Benfica will play against Galitos-Tley (#10) in Barreiro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fisica will play on the road against Alges and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Coimbra was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Academica (13-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Sampaense (9-9). Academica managed to secure a 8-point victory 68-60 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of Mario Fernandes who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Stefan Djukic responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Sampaense's coach Jose Calabote rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Academica have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Ovarense. Sampaense at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Academica will meet at home Vitoria SC (#5) in the next round. Sampaense will play against Lusitania in Angra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 20 Alges was defeated by Vitoria SC in Guimaraes 74-66.
The best stats of 20th round was 30 points and 15 rebounds by Jamarkus Holt of Alges.


Fisica - Benfica 56-70

Leader Benfica delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they beat 9th ranked Fisica (5-13) 70-56 in Torres Vedras. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Fisica was better in fourth quarter 10-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. There was no surprise in Guimaraes where 10th ranked Alges (2-16) were defeated by sixth ranked Vitoria SC (10-8) 74-66 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-66. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Vitoria SC made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) who added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. American forward Jamarkus Holt (205, college: Delta St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds and international Rui Quintino (194-83) scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Alges' coach Mario Silva rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vitoria SC moved-up to fifth place. Alges lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with 16 games lost. Vitoria SC will meet higher ranked Academica (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. The game in Coimbra was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Academica (13-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Sampaense (9-9). Academica managed to secure a 8-point victory 68-60 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sampaense won third quarter 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Mario Fernandes (176-82) who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) who added 12 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Five Academica players scored in double figures. Naturalized Serbian Stefan Djukic (201-89, agency: Dynamics Global Management) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Green Bay) scored 14 points.
