6th ranked Sampaense (9-10) fell to eighth ranked Lusitania (7-11) in overtime by two points 85-87 on Saturday night. It was a good game for Augusto Sobrinho who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 6 assists. Sampaense's coach Jose Calabote rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lusitania moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Barcelos. Sampaense at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Lusitania will face higher ranked Vitoria SC (#5) in Guimaraes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

The most impressive performance of 21th round was 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by Ivan Almeida of Vitoria SC.


CAB Madeira - Ovarense 86-77

The game between closely ranked teams ended with third ranked CAB Madeira's (14-3) home victory over 4th placed Ovarense (13-6) in Funchal 86-77 on Sunday. Ovarense was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. CAB Madeira made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) who led his team to a victory with 14 points and 7 assists. His fellow American import power forward Shawn Jackson (203-71, college: Johnson C. Smith) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Miguel Miranda (205-78, agency: Dynamics Global Management) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard Jose Miguel Barbosa (176-90) added 7 points and 16 assists in the effort for Ovarense. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. CAB Madeira have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Ovarense at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. CAB Madeira will face Galitos-Tley (#10) in Barreiro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ovarense will play at home against the league's leader Benfica (#1).

Benfica - Galitos-Tley 88-63

Very expected game when 10th ranked Galitos-Tley (2-16) was smashed on the road by first ranked Benfica (18-1) 88-63 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Galitos-Tley was better in fourth quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Galitos-Tley to just 5 points in second quarter. Benfica dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Galitos-Tley's 30. They outrebounded Galitos-Tley 40-28 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Benfica looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for American guard LaceDarius Dunn (193-87, college: Baylor, agency: Three Eye Sports) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Benfica players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Pedro Pinto (188-88) answered with 18 points and 5 assists and center Jose Ferreira (198-78) added 16 points and 5 assists in the effort for Galitos-Tley. Benfica have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-1 record. Galitos-Tley lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with 16 games lost. Benfica will face Ovarense (#4) on the road in the next round. Galitos-Tley will play against Alges (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Academica forced 21 Vitoria SC turnovers. It was a good game for the former international point guard Mario Fernandes (176-82) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Spanish forward Arnette Hallman (199-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Lusitania forced 24 Sampaense turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Lusitania made 10 blocks. It was a good game for guard Augusto Sobrinho (188-85) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 6 assists. American center Marcel Momplaisir (205-81, college: Rhode Island) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.
