CAB Madeira - Academica 59-76

Academica rolled past CAB Madeira to level things up in the semifinal series. The game was mostly controlled by Academica. CAB Madeira managed to win third quarter 22-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Academica dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to CAB Madeira's 28. 24 personal fouls committed by CAB Madeira helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Polish center Szymon Lukasiak (208-87, college: Jacksonville, agency: Promotex) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Fernando Sousa (192-81) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) responded with 16 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and his fellow American import power forward Shawn Jackson (203-71, college: Johnson C. Smith) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. CAB Madeira's coach Joao Freitas rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win.

Benfica - Ovarense 70-50

Benfica eased past Ovarense for the second consecutive win in the series. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Ovarense was better in second period 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ovarense to just 6 points in first quarter. Benfica made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Ovarense turnovers and outrebounded them 38-17 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international center Elvis Evora (205-78) notched 16 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international Joao Gomes (201-85) supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Even 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) did not help to save the game for Ovarense. International Fernando Neves (194-80) added 14 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
