Barcelos - CAB Madeira 60-59

Barcelos cut the deficit in the series versus CAB Madeira. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 60-59. It was a great evening for Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (200-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. International point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) helped adding 12 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Spanish power forward Jose Manuel Coego (204-78) with 17 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Jose Costa (187-73) scored 18 points.

Academica surged ahead in the series versus Sampaense. The game was mostly controlled by Academica. Sampaense was better in fourth quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Academica forced 19 Sampaense turnovers. Vitoria SC - Ovarense 83-84 OT

Ovarense used an overtime to steal a tough road win over Vitoria SC. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 28-21. But Vitoria SC won second period 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Vitoria SC used huge pressure winning it 15-11 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 8-9. It was a great evening for the former international forward Miguel Miranda (205-78, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Jose Miguel Barbosa (176-90) helped adding 13 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Charlie Swiggett (185-86, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and the other American import center Dain Swetalla (206-86, college: Augustana, IL) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Benfica became the first semifinalists as they rallied past Lusitania. The game without a history. Benfica led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great evening for the former international Joao Gomes (201-85) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. International center Claudio Fonseca (206-89) helped adding 15 points. Four Benfica players scored in double figures. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Durrell Nevels (198-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and guard Augusto Sobrinho (188-85) scored 20 points.

Illiabum Clube (LPB) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old international center Pedro Belo (212-92) from CAB Madeira. In 15 LPB games he recorded just 2.9ppg and 1.7rpg last season. S.C. Lusitania EXPERT (LPB) landed 24-year old Serbian forward Dusan Hukic (206-93). He played most recently at Metalac in Serbian KLS league. In 22 games he averaged 4.7ppg and 2.8rpg last season. The previous (15-16) season Hukic played at Tamis (also in KLS) where in 32 games he had 7.1ppg and 3.4rpg. He was selected to Serbian U20 National Team in 2013. Defending champion Sport Lisboa Benfica (LPB) inked 28-year old American point guard Jesse Sanders (190-91kg-89, college: Liberty). He played most recently at BG Goettingen in German BBL league.
