Petty's 39-point game gives him Player of the Week award - Feb 19, 2013

Perry Petty
24-year old guard Perry Petty (185-G-88) put on an amazing game in the last round for Giurgiu and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 22.
He had the game-high 39 points adding six rebounds and five assists for Giurgiu in his team's victory, helping them to beat Rovinari (#9, 11-11) 104-99. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Giurgiu maintains the 12th position in Romanian league. Giurgiu is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 8-14 record. In the team's last game Petty had a remarkable 68.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Giurgiu's top player in his first season with the team. University of Texas-Pan American graduate has very impressive stats this year. Petty is in league's top in points (9th best: 16.0ppg) and averages solid 51.7% FGP. Worth to mention Petty played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

Second best performed player last round was Bryson McKenzie (211-C-83). He is American center in his first season at Giurgiu. In the last game McKenzie recorded impressive double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. It was enough for Giurgiu to edge the higher-ranked Rovinari (#9, 11-11) by 5 points 104-99. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Giurgiu keeps 12th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-14 record. McKenzie is a newcomer at Giurgiu and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Jaytonah Wisseh (185-G-88) of Rovinari (#9). Wisseh showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, five rebounds and eight assists in the last round. Despite Wisseh's great performance Rovinari lost 99-104 to the lower-ranked Giurgiu (#12, 8-14). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Rovinari needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 11 victories and 11 lost games. Wisseh has a very solid season. In 6 games in Romania he scored 21.3ppg. He also has 4.2rpg, 7.5apg, FGP: 52.1% and 3PT: 56.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Zlatko Jovanovic (181-PG-84) of Timisoara - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists
5. Christopher Lee (206-C-84) of CSU Sibiu - 24 points and 6 rebounds
6. Stefan Nikolic (193-G-87) of Rovinari - 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Franjo Bubalo (194-G-88) of Miercurea Ciuc - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Ionut Dragusin (221-C-85) of Craiova - 17 points and 12 rebounds
9. Marijo Hajdic (206-F/C-89) of Miercurea Ciuc - 17 points and 15 rebounds
10. Virgil Stanescu (208-C/F-77) of Ploiesti - 11 points and 10 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
