Ksenia Tikhonenko (193-F/C-93, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) leads Russia over Slovak Republic at the Classification Games for 5th to 8th Place of the U20 European Championship. She nailed 16 points in a 61:55 win on Saturday. Russia will take on France in the game for the 5th place, while Slovak Republic will play against Serbia for the 7-8 places.
Russia won the opening period 17:11 and scored another 17 points in the second frame. It was enough to keep 6-point halftime advantage. Slovak Republic replied with a 14-10 rally in the third period as Ivancakova reduced to 44:42.Moreover Beata Janoscikova (195-C-93) gave her team 45:44 lead early in the fourth period, but Russia pulled back at the end of the game. Galina Kiseleva (184-SF-93) and Alina Zamaraeva (179-SG-93) shined in the last minutes to bring the necessary win.
Galina Kiseleva collected 13 points and 12 boards for the winners. Alina Zamaraeva netted 11 and Darya Namok (179-G/F-93) brought 8. Zofia Hruscakova (190-C-95) finsihed the game with 14 points and 10 caroms in the losing case and Sabina Oroszova (188-F-93) added 11 points and 10 boards. Beata Janoscikova posted 10, while Angelika Slamova (173-G-94) notched 9.

Olaf Lange has been appointed the new head coach of the Russian National Team. The German specialist will replace Alexander Vasin at helm. Olaf Lange is not new to Russia. He has been working with UMMC since 2012. Lange guided the team to two Euroleague and five Russian PBL titles. He was named All-EuroLeague Coach of the Year in 2013. Nadezhda Orenburg (PBL) re-signed 21-year old international center Zhosselina Maiga (193-83kg-96). She has played there for the last three seasons. In 26 PBL games she averaged 7.3ppg and 4.5rpg last season. Maiga helped them to make it to the semifinals. She also played 6 games in Euroleague where she had 3.8ppg and 2.7rpg. Nadezhda Orenburg (PBL) signed 24-year old Russian international power forward Ksenia Tikhonenko (192-93, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov). She is a dual citizen owning also Kazakhstan passport. Tikhonenko has played for the last two seasons at Dynamo Moscow in the PBL. In 23 games she had 9.9ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg last season. She helped them to make it to the semifinals.
