B League Round 24: Proleter Naftagas beat Mladost Zemun by three after a very close game - Apr 9, 2013

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in B League. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most exciting game of round 24 in the B League took place in Zrenjanin. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Mladost Zemun (13-11) to seventh ranked Proleter Naftagas (12-11) 90-87 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Mladost Zemun. Mladost Zemun trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 25-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 87-90 at the end of the game. Proleter Naftagas made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Mladost Zemun helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for swingman Nebojsa Knezevic (196-87) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 6 assists. Swingman Petar Lambic (195-92) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Nikola Pavlovic replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Mladost Zemun. Proleter Naftagas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 12-11 record. Mladost Zemun at the other side keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Napredak A.. Proleter Naftagas are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Spartak (#14) in Subotica in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mladost Zemun will play at home against Napredak Rubin (#3) in Krusevac and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Napredak Rubin (14-10) against sixth ranked Napredak A. (13-11) on Saturday night. Host Napredak Rubin was defeated by Napredak A. in Krusevac 85-70. Worth to mention a great performance of Dragoljub Sikman who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Aleksandar Miladinovic who added 8 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Milan Radivojevic (190-89) with 15 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Napredak A. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Mladost Zemun. Napredak Rubin at the other side keeps the third position with ten games lost. They share it with Morava. Napredak A. will play against league's second-placed Crnokosa in Kosjeric in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Napredak Rubin will play on the road against Mladost Zemun and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Crnokosa (16-8) which hosted in Kosjeric one of their biggest challengers Morava (14-10). Second ranked Crnokosa had an easy win 92-73. The winners were led by Bojan Stanojevic who scored that evening 24 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Even 23 points and 5 rebounds by Milos Andrejevic did not help to save the game for Morava. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Crnokosa have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-8 record having just three points less than leader Meridiana NS. Newly promoted Morava dropped to the third place with ten games lost. They share the position with Napredak K.. Crnokosa will meet Napredak A. (#6) in the next round. Morava will play against the league's leader Meridiana NS in Novi Sad and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Spartak managed to get a seventh victory. This time they won against tenth-ranked Partizan II in Subotica 93-81. The best player for the winners was Milan Markovic who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Spartak's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Spartak maintains fourteenth position with 7-17 record. Newly promoted Partizan II keeps the tenth place with 13 games lost. Spartak's next round opponent will be higher ranked Proleter Naftagas (#7) in Zrenjanin and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
B League top team - Meridiana NS (19-5) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Radnicki OB (9-15) in Novi Sad 87-70. It was a good game for Milan Stanojevic who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals. Meridiana NS's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Newly promoted Meridiana NS maintains first position with 19-5 record. Radnicki OB lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Meridiana NS will face Morava (#4) in Vladicin Han in the next round. Radnicki OB will play at home against Zeleznicar (#8) in Indjija.

In the last two games of round 24 Mladost Cacak beat Zeleznicar on the road 74-62. Plana won against Beovuk 72 on its own court 81-73.
The most impressive performance of 24th round was 29 points and 16 rebounds by Milan Dondur of Beovuk 72.


Proleter Naftagas - Mladost Zemun 90-87

There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Mladost Cacak (8-15) beat higher ranked Zeleznicar (11-12) in Indjija 74-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Mladost Cacak. Zeleznicar was better in fourth quarter 21-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mladost Cacak made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Mladost Cacak outrebounded Zeleznicar 42-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for forward Strahinja Petkovic (197-92) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 5 rebounds. Center Milos Jankovic (203-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. There was an upset when higher ranked Beovuk 72 (11-13) lost to twelfth ranked Plana (9-15) in Velika Plana 73-81 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 50-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Plana made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Beovuk 72's players. Beovuk 72 was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for center Nikola Glisovic (209-73) who led his team to a victory with 25 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Bosnian guard Ivica Vukotic (183-77) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 assists for the winners. Five Plana players scored in double figures. Milan Dondur replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 16 rebounds and Igor Djukovic added 14 points and 5 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in the effort for Beovuk 72. Beovuk 72's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Plana moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Radnicki OB. Bottom-ranked Spartak managed to get a seventh victory. This time they won against tenth-ranked Partizan II in Subotica 93-81. Meridiana NS - Radnicki OB 87-70

B League top team - Meridiana NS (19-5) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Radnicki OB (9-15) in Novi Sad 87-70. The game was mostly controlled by Meridiana NS. Radnicki OB was better in second period 24-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Radnicki OB 38-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for guard Milan Stanojevic (188-86, college: E.Washington) who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals. Guard Marko Savic (197-87) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Meridiana NS's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Vlatko Ilic replied with 19 points and American center Goran Huskic (210-92, college: Howard Col. (TX)) added 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks in the effort for Radnicki OB. Newly promoted Meridiana NS maintains first position with 19-5 record. Radnicki OB lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Meridiana NS will face Morava (#4) in Vladicin Han in the next round. Radnicki OB will play at home against Zeleznicar (#8) in Indjija.
