Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovakian players, who play currently abroad.


Radoslav Rancik

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international power forward Radoslav Rancik (207-79, agency: Beo Basket, college: St.Cloud St., currently plays in Czech Republic). He was the major contributor in a CEZ Nymburk's victory against the fifth-ranked NH Ostrava (18-13) 81-67 in the Czech Republic NBL in Saturday night's game. Rancik recorded 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 20 minutes on the court. CEZ Basketball Nymburk (29-1) is placed first in Group A1. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Rancik has relatively good stats this year: 13.1ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.8apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 57.6%(68-118), 3FGP: 36.3% and FT: 86.8% in the 23 games he played so far. Former BK Inter Bratislava starter played for the Slovakian senior national team three years ago.

Roman Marko

   #2. Second place goes to an international shooting guard Roman Marko (194-86, currently plays in Czech Republic). He led BK Prostejov to a victory over the fifth-ranked NH Ostrava (18-13) 82-72 in the Czech Republic NBL last Saturday. Marko was MVP of the game. He scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). BK Prostejov (19-10) is placed second in Group A1. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game is very crucial. It's Marko's first season with the team. This year Marko averages: 9.5ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.4apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 49.6%, 3FGP: 30.9% and FT: 69.7%. He has a dual citizenship: Slovakian and Czech Republic. Marko is in the roster of the Slovakian senior national team.

   #3. The Slovakian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Pavol Losonsky (203-88, college: Cal-Irvine, currently plays in United Kingdom). He contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Durham Wildcats crushing them 93-70 in the British BBL in Saturday night's game. Losonsky scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Jelson Homes DMU Leicester City Riders (27-2) is placed first in the BBL. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This season Losonsky has relatively solid stats: 14.2ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 54.1%, 3FGP: 32.1% and FT: 72.6%. He is also a member of the Slovakian senior national team.

   #4. Power forward Justin Sedlak (205-87, college: Florida Tech, currently plays in Sweden) was the main contributor in a Solna Vikings' victory against the closely-ranked Sodertalje Kings (24-9) 83-66 in the Swedish Basketligan last Sunday. Sedlak was the best player in that game. He recorded 17 points in 20 minutes; not bad, considering it's only Sedlak's second season in pro basketball. Solna Vikings (20-13) is placed sixth in the Basketligan. Sedlak has reliable stats this year: 11.7ppg and 5.1rpg in the 35 games. He used to play for the Slovakian national team back in 2010.

   #5. International small forward Dusan Pandula (196-84, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Roman Marko and both played together in the last Czech Republic NBL game. Pandula contributed to a BK Prostejov's victory against the fifth-ranked NH Ostrava (18-13) 82-72. He scored 6 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Pandula's stats this season are: 12.2ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg. He plays currently for the Slovakian national team.

   #6. Center Martin Miklosik (225-86, currently plays in Czech Republic) helped B&W Opava win their game against the fourth-ranked Levharti Chomutov (13-22) crushing them 90-69 in the Czech Republic NBL in Saturday night's game. He scored 11 points and blocked 2 shots in only a mere 12 minutes. BK Breda & Weinstein Opava (14-21) is placed third in Group A2. Miklosik's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. This year Miklosik's overall stats are: 5.4ppg and 5.0rpg in the 34 games. Worth to mention Miklosik played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is a former international player as he played for the Slovakian senior team three years ago.

   #7. International swingman Martin Sykora (192-81, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic NBL could not help Basketbal Svitavy (11-24) to beat Levharti Chomutov (13-22). He recorded 7 points in 28 minutes. The fifth-placed Basketbal Svitavy was badly defeated 87-68 on the road by the higher-ranked (#4) Levharti Chomutov in the Group A2. It was Basketbal Svitavy's third consecutive loss in a row. Sykora's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. This year Sykora's total stats are: 5.1ppg and 3.7rpg in the 14 games. He is also Slovakian national team player.


The list of other players, who all have Slovakian passport but never been selected to any of Slovakian national teams:

   #1. Peter Simek (205-C-88, agency: Dynamics Global Management, college: Cal-Irvine, currently plays in United Kingdom) led Surrey Heat to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Cheshire Phoenix (9-22) crushing them 108-84 in the British BBL on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 13 rebounds in 27 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Simek's third season in pro basketball. Surrey Heat (19-12) is placed fourth in the BBL. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Simek's overall stats are: 6.5ppg and 5.4rpg in the 29 games he played so far.

   #2. Lukas Varga (183-G-85, college: Coker, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to a Horsens IC's victory against the closely-ranked Bakken (21-6) 82-78 in the Danish Ligaen last Thursday. Varga scored 6 points. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Horsens IC (19-8) is placed third in the Ligaen. Varga's total stats this season are: 4.2ppg, 1.2rpg, 1.6apg and 1.1spg.

   #3. Experienced Stefan Svitek (203-F/C-77, currently plays in Luxembourg), who plays in the Luxembourg Total League could not help Basket Esch (4-1) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Svitek's good performance Basket Esch was defeated 98-86 on the road by the second-ranked Soleuvre in the Places 7-10 group. He scored 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Svitek's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. Svitek averaged so far 14.2ppg, 8.7rpg and 1.8apg.

SBL Round 5: Kosice lose to Levice in the game between Top 4 teams - 16 hours ago
After 5 rounds played we can already see who rules in the SBL and who belongs to weaker ones. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. The game between Top Four teams took place in Levice. Third ranked host Levice (4-1) defeated second-ranked Kosice (3-2) 66-51. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kosice. It was a key game for the top position in the league. KFUM Jamtland Basket(Basketligan)signed the 31year oldWilliam Walker(197-104kg-87, college:Bethel, IN)with a one-month contract. The american forward replaces Brandon Taylor, who's currently getting ready from an injury. Walker played last year at KTP Basket Kotka in finnish Korisliiga and at Inter Bratislava in slovakian SBL where's he helped the club to win the SBL Championship. Stamenkovic's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 4 days ago
27-year old power forward Svetozar Stamenkovic (206-F/C-90) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Kosice and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. He had a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, while his team outclassed Nova Ves (#5, 2-2) with 39-point margin 113-74. Kosice maintains the 2nd position in Slovakian league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Kosice will need more victories...   [read more]
