Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovenian players, who play currently abroad.


Mirza Begic

   #1. This week's number one is former international center Mirza Begic (217-85, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked CAI Zaragoza (21-13) crushing them 93-65 in the Spanish ACB in Saturday night's game. Begic scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 18 minutes on the court. Real Madrid (30-4) is placed first in the ACB. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. This year Begic averages: 5.7ppg, 3.0rpg, 2FGP: 58.6%(89-152) and FT: 71.4% in the 39 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian. Former Triglav Kranj starter played for the Slovenian senior national team two years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Erazem Lorbek (209-84, college: Michigan St., currently plays in Spain). Lorbek contributed to a Regal FC Barcelona's victory against the seventh-ranked G.Canaria 2014 (19-15) 77-73 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. He scored 9 points. Regal FC Barcelona (23-11) is placed third in the ACB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Lorbek's fourth season with the team. Lorbek has relatively good stats this year: 10.2ppg, 3.4rpg, 2FGP: 59.5%(128-215), 3FGP: 31.7% and FT: 76.1%. He played for the Slovenian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Slovenian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international power forward Bostjan Nachbar (207-80, currently plays in Germany). Nachbar helped Brose Baskets Bamberg win their game against the closely-ranked Bayern Muenchen (21-13) 85-66 in the German BBL on Thursday night. He scored 8 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 21 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Brose Baskets Bamberg (26-8) is placed first in the BBL. This year Nachbar has relatively solid stats: 13.5ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 49.3%, 3FGP: 36.3% and FT: 84.3% in the 42 games. He played for the Slovenian national team three years ago.

G.Canaria 2014 lost 73-77 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Regal FC Barcelona. It's Slokar's first season with the team. This year Slokar's overall stats are: 4.3ppg and 2.6rpg in the 31 games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team two years ago.

   #6. Center Jusuf Nurkic (212-94, currently plays in Croatia) was not able to help KK Zadar (11-3) in their game against Cibona (12-2) in the Croatian A1. Nurkic scored 6 points. The third-placed KK Zadar was badly defeated 92-76 in Zagreb by the leading Cibona in the Places 1-8 group. Nurkic is ranked fifth on the list of the best blockers in the league. American Devin Oliver (204-SF-92) had a great game in the last round for Un.Olimpija and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9 (Second Stage). The 24-year old had the game-high 20 points adding nine rebounds and five assists for Un.Olimpija in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Zlatorog (4-5) 88-87. Krka defeted Rogaska 72-68 on road in the game of the Slovenian League Champioship Stage Round 9 to claim home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Rogaska-Krka 68-72: Krka opened the fourth quarter with eight points in a row for a 61-52 lead, the largest margin of the game, with less than five minutes left. Igor Tratnik (207-F-89) of Zlatorog will miss several month of action with a knee injury. He got injured during the practice last Friday. Tratnik re-joined Zlatorog last summer and averaging 16.9 points (ranked second), 7.5 rebounds (ranked fourth), 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per 32 minutes in 29 Slovenian League appearances.
