LFB Round 22: No surprise as #1 Rivas Ecopolis defeat Hondarribia-Irun - Mar 30, 2013

The Regular Season in LFB just ended.

LFB top team - Rivas Ecopolis (19-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Hondarribia-Irun (6-14) 70-47. The game was mostly controlled by Rivas Ecopolis. Hondarribia-Irun managed to win second period 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hondarribia-Irun to just 5 points in first quarter. Rivas Ecopolis dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Hondarribia-Irun's 28. They outrebounded Hondarribia-Irun 40-26 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Aneika Henry (193-86, college: Florida) had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Hungarian power forward Anna Vadja (191-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Italee Lucas (172-89, college: N.Carolina) responded with 11 points. Rivas Ecopolis have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-1 record. Hondarribia-Irun at the other side keeps the ninth place with 14 games lost.
The game in Burgos was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Navarra Pamplona (8-12) played at the court of seventh ranked Jopisa Burgos (8-12). Jopisa Burgos managed to secure a 6-point victory 70-64. Point guard Anna Gomez (179-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) notched 7 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and Rachel Allison supported her with 17 points. Even 15 points and 5 assists by point guard Maria Asurmendi (168-86) did not help to save the game for Navarra Pamplona. Jopisa Burgos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gran Canaria and UNB Obenasa. Navarra Pamplona lost fifth consecutive game.
The game in Las Palmas was also quite interesting. Third ranked Argon Uni Girona (15-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Gran Canaria (8-12). Argon Uni Girona defeated Gran Canaria 67-55 on Saturday. Jacinta Monroe fired 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Leticia Romero produced 15 points and 4 assists for lost side. Gran Canaria's coach Domingo Diaz rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Argon Uni Girona have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-5 record having four points less than leader Rivas Ecopolis. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the fifth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Burgos and UNB Obenasa.

In the last two games of round 22 Cadi ICG S. won against Conquero on the opponent's court 64-58. Bembibre unfortunately lost to Perfumerias in a home game 61-70.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by Bernice Mosby of Conquero.


Burgos - UNB Obenasa 70-64

The game in Burgos was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Navarra Pamplona (8-12) played at the court of seventh ranked Jopisa Burgos (8-12). Jopisa Burgos managed to secure a 6-point victory 70-64. Navarra Pamplona was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 42-35 second half run of Jopisa Burgos. They also forced 20 Navarra Pamplona turnovers. Very expected game in Huelva where 11th ranked Conquero (5-15) was defeated by fourth ranked Cadi ICG S. (12-8) 64-58 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Conquero won third quarter 15-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Guard Cristina Garcia (183-84, agency: Regeneracom Sports) fired 15 points for the winners. Senegalese power forward Astou Traore (182-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Bernice Mosby (186-84, college: Baylor) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Dutch guard Tanya Broering (178-84) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Cadi ICG S. have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 12-8 record. Conquero lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Bembibre.

American power forward Jacinta Monroe (193-88, college: Florida St.) fired 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The other American import center Cierra Bravard (193-89, college: Florida St.) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Argon Uni Girona players scored in double figures. Leticia Romero (176-95) produced 15 points and 4 assists and international power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) added 7 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Perfumerias Avenida led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Perfumerias Avenida outrebounded Socinsa Bembibre 33-18 including 23 on the defensive glass. American swingman Monique Currie (183-83, college: Duke) fired 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The other American import center Le'Coe Willingham (183-81, college: Auburn, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Four Perfumerias Avenida players scored in double figures. Power forward Rita Montenegro (188-82) produced 13 points and American center Britany Miller (193-87, college: Florida St.) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side.
