Here is the weekly review of the top performing Spanish players, who play currently abroad.


Serge Ibaka

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Serge Ibaka (208-89, currently plays in NBA). Ibaka led Oklahoma City Thunder to a victory against the Orlando Magic (18-53) 97-89 in the NBA last Friday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 13 rebounds. Ibaka also added 5 blocks. The Oklahoma City Thunder has a solid 52-19 record this season. Ibaka has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 13.3ppg, 7.8rpg, 3.0bpg, 2FGP: 58.9%(368-625), 3FGP: 35.4% and FT: 75.3%. Ibaka has a dual citizenship: Congolese and Spanish. Ex-C.B. L'Hospitalet player is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Marc Gasol (216-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Memphis Grizzlies (47-23) in their last game. Despite Gasol's very good performance the Memphis Grizzlies lost 83-90 on the road to the New Orleans Hornets. He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Gasol also added 6 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 4 balls in 38 minutes. It's Gasol's fifth season with the team. He has very impressive stats this year: 14.3ppg, 7.8rpg, 3.9apg, 1.7bpg, 2FGP: 49.9%, 3FGP: 8.3% and FT: 85.5% in the 68 games he played so far. Gasol is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Jose Manuel Calderon (192-81, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. Calderon was not able to help the Detroit Pistons (24-48) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Detroit Pistons lost 89-103 in Miami to the Heat. Calderon was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 7 passes in 43 minutes. Calderon has very impressive stats this year: 11.8ppg, 2.8rpg, 6.7apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 50.8%, 3FGP: 54.0%(47-87) and FT: 91.3%(21-23) in the 24 games. He is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #4. Guard Ricky Rubio (192-90, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to secure a victory for the Minnesota Timberwolves (25-44) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Rubio's very good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves were defeated 104-97 in Chicago by the Bulls. He scored 15 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 8 assists. Rubio has relatively good stats this season: 10.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 7.3apg and 2.3spg. He used to play for the Spanish national team back in 2011.

   #5. An experienced international power forward Pau Gasol (213-80, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the Los Angeles Lakers (36-35) in their game against the Golden State Warriors (41-31) in the NBA. He scored 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Los Angeles Lakers were defeated 109-103 in Oakland by the Golden State Warriors. It was Lakers' third consecutive loss in a row. Gasol is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Lakers' roster. This season Gasol has very high stats. He averages: 12.9ppg, 8.0rpg, 3.4apg and 1.3bpg. Gasol plays currently for the Spanish national team.

   #6. Point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen couldn't help Randers (13-14) in their last game on Monday. Despite Ortega's good performance Randers was defeated 86-76 on the opponent's court by the leading Svendborg. He recorded 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Ortega is the league's best passer and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). He has very reliable stats this season: 12.6ppg, 3.7rpg, 7.0apg and 2.1spg. Ortega is a former U18 international player as he played for the Spanish team four years ago.

   #7. Former international center Albert Miralles (208-82, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help ALBA Berlin in a 3-point victoryagainst the closely-ranked Brose Baskets Bamberg (0-12) 75-72 in the Euroleague in Wednesday night's game. He scored only 2 points in 3 minutes on the court. ALBA Berlin (2-10) is placed seventh in group E. They ended the series of six consecutive loses. There are only two games left until the end of the Euroleague Top 16. So now every game will be critical. It's Miralles' first season with the team. This year Miralles' overall stats are: 5.1ppg and 3.5rpg in the 22 games. He used to play for the Spanish national team eight years ago.

Guard Francisco Robles (195-81, currently plays in United Kingdom) was the major contributor in a 2-point Bristol Acadamy Flyers' victory against the closely-ranked London Leopards (12-10) 83-81 in the British EBL D1 (second division) last Saturday. Robles scored 17 points and added 3 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Bristol Acadamy Flyers (14-8) is placed fourth in the EBL D1. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Robles has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.4apg and 1.1spg. He used to play for the Spanish U20 national team back in 2000.

   #1. Tiago Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in a San Antonio Spurs' victory against the Golden State Warriors (41-31) 104-93 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 31 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs have a very solid 53-17 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Splitter has relatively good stats this year: 10.5ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.6apg in the 70 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Spanish.

   #2. Experienced Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA could not help the Phoenix Suns (23-48) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance the Phoenix Suns were crushed 117-86 at home by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Scola recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 12 rebounds. It's Scola's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Scola averages: 12.2ppg, 6.3rpg and 2.3apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Argentinian and Spanish.

   #3. Caio Silveira (211-C-87, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Brazil) led Flamengo to a victory against the 12th-ranked Winner/Limeira (12-18) 80-75 in the Brazilian NBB in Saturday night's game. Silveira had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (6-0) is placed first in the NBB. So far his team won all six games in the Regular Season. Silveira belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #7 with 7.0rpg. He also averaged so far 13.0ppg in the 29 games. Silveira has both Spanish and Brazilian nationalities.

   #4. Juan Ignacio Sanchez (192-G-77, college: Temple, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to Wuber-Est.Bahia's surprising victory against the fifth-ranked Argentino (25-19) 85-83 in the Argentinian LigaA on Tuesday night. He scored 19 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals in 29 minutes. Wuber Estudiantes de Bahia Blanca (20-22) is placed 12th in the LigaA. This year Sanchez's overall stats are: 7.4ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.8apg in the 26 games. He also holds two passports: Spanish and Argentinian.

   #5. Sergi Coll (204-F/C-82, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to Ovarense's victory against the seventh-ranked Barcelos (7-10) 80-75 in the Portuguese LPB in Wednesday night's game. Coll recorded 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Ovarense Dolce Vita (13-5) is placed third in the LPB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Coll has relatively solid stats: 14.7ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.4apg and 1.3spg.

   #6. Jose Manuel Coego (204-C/F-78, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to a CAB Madeira's victory against the ninth-ranked Fisica 81-69 in the Portuguese LPB last Sunday. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 28 minutes. This year Coego has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg and 5.5rpg in the 16 games.

   #7. Jorge Calvo (190-G-87, currently plays in United Kingdom) helped Leicester Riders win their game against the fifth-ranked Glasgow Rocks 84-71 in the British BBL on Saturday night. He scored 10 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Calvo's overall stats this season are: 4.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.0apg and 1.6spg.

   #8. Devin Davis (202-F-74, college: Miami, OH, currently plays in Argentina) is a teammate of previously mentioned Juan Ignacio Sanchez and both played together in the last Argentinian LigaA game. Davis helped Wuber-Est.Bahia edge the fifth-ranked Argentino 85-83. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 24 minutes. This year Davis' overall stats are: 6.7ppg and 5.7rpg in the 20 games. He is a naturalized American. Davis used to play for 13.6ppg, Reb-1(9.8), 2apg, in April '98 signed with Huelva in Spanish league.

   #9. Gustavo Barrera (194-G-85, currently plays in Uruguay) was not able to help Hebraica in their game against Malvin in the Uruguayan LUB. He scored 6 points, grabbed 6 boards, passed 7 assists and added 3 steals. His team was defeated 75-66. Barrera is the league's best passer and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). He has very reliable stats this season: 13.9ppg, 4.3rpg, 7.8apg and 2.0spg. Barrera holds both Spanish and Uruguayan passports.

   #10. Arnette Hallman (199-F-88, currently plays in Portugal) helped Academica win their game against the closely-ranked Barcelos 81-74 in the Portuguese LPB on Sunday night. He recorded 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes. Hallman is currently first on the league's list of best rebounders and also on the list of most steals (fifth place). He has very impressive stats this year: 15.6ppg, 11.2rpg, 2.5apg and 2.1spg in the 17 games. Hallman is a naturalized American. He used to play for Estudiantes de Lugo in Spanish league.

Belgium - Spain 72-88 Spain posted an 88-72 win over Belgium on Wednesday night. Scariolo's team dominated the majority game for the 16-point total win. Spain grabbed 28-15 lead after the first ten minutes and never looked behind after. Moreover the guests added a 23-16 rally for a 51-31 lead at the halftime. In 24 Liga Endesa games in Spain he had 8.1ppg, 1.1rpg and 2.4apg last season. He helped them to make it to the final.
