The Second Stage in Damligan just started.

There was a change at the Damligan leadership position after last games. Round 1 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Solna Vikings (3-1). They were crushed by third ranked Norrkoping Dolphins (2-2) 67-40 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Solna Vikings. The game without a history. Norrkoping Dolphins led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Solna Vikings to just 6 points in first quarter. Norrkoping Dolphins held Solna Vikings to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 38.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Norrkoping Dolphins forced 22 Solna Vikings turnovers and outrebounded them 50-29 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Lykendra Johnson (185-89, college: Michigan St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international guard Johanna Kallman (172-87) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Slovenian guard Katarina Ristic (174-84) responded with 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Norrkoping Dolphins maintains third place in Group 1 with 2-2 record having twenty three point less than leader Sallen. Solna Vikings at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Northland. They were replaced at the leadership position by Sallen. Solna Vikings will play next round against league's leader Northland trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Norrkoping Dolphins will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Telge at home.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Northland as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group 1. Northland smashed 4th placed Telge in Lulea 75-55. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Telge. The former international power forward Anna Barthold (185-80, college: St.Peter's, agency: Josep and Nicolas) nailed 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and Irina Mihailova accounted for 16 points. Northland's coach Mikael Johansson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international guard Josefin Olheim (176-86) came up with 9 points and 5 rebounds for Telge in the defeat. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Solna Vikings. Defending champion Telge still closes the standings with four games lost. Telge will play next round against strong Norrkoping Dolphins trying to get back on the winning streak. Northland will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Solna Vikings on the road.
Leading Visby Ladies (1-3) recorded its third loss in Kinna on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Mark Basket (2-2) 78-68. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Visby Ladies. It was a key game for the second position in Group 2. Ashley Key fired a triple-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Earnesia Williams produced 22 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Mark Basket moved-up to second place in Group 2, which they share with Kvarnby. Loser Visby Ladies dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Mark Basket will meet at home league's leader Udominate in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Visby Ladies will play against the league's second-placed Kvarnby and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
And what about another game where Udominate (#1) beat Kvarnby 87-82 on the road. It was a key game for the top position in Group 2. Worth to mention a great performance of Jeannie Saunders who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Kvarnby's coach Johanna Ericsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Udominate maintains first place in Group 2 with 3-1 record. Kvarnby at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Udominate's next round opponent will be Mark Basket (#3) in Kinna, which may be the game of the day. Kvarnby will play on the road against Visby Ladies and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Group 1
Northland - Telge 75-55

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Northland as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group 1. Northland smashed 4th placed Telge in Lulea 75-55. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Telge. The game was mostly controlled by Northland. Telge was better in third quarter 15-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Telge to just 5 points in first quarter. Northland forced 19 Telge turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. The former international power forward Anna Barthold (185-80, college: St.Peter's, agency: Josep and Nicolas) nailed 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and Moldovan-Russian forward Irina Mihailova (191-81) accounted for 16 points. Northland's coach Mikael Johansson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international guard Josefin Olheim (176-86) came up with 9 points and 5 rebounds and international power forward Jennifer Stjarnstrom (187-87, college: Drexel) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Telge in the defeat. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Solna Vikings. Defending champion Telge still closes the standings with four games lost. Telge will play next round against strong Norrkoping Dolphins trying to get back on the winning streak. Northland will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Solna Vikings on the road.

The guests were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-16 Kvarnby's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 87-82 at the end of the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jeannie Saunders (173-86, college: Salem Intern.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international forward Jessica Nilsson (184-89) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Udominate players scored in double figures. American guard Brittany Smart (175-85, college: Cedarville) answered with 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Elin Soderstrom (180-83) added 19 points in the effort for Kvarnby. Damligan newcomer KFUM Uppsala inked 23-year old American forward Jalen O'Bannon (185-94). She just graduated from E.Kentucky (NCAA). O'Bannon has played there for the last three years. In 31 games she recorded 14.2ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.7apg, 1.0spg and 1.3bpg last season. She helped them to make it to the final. A very good season in her career as she was voted to All-OVC 1st Team and OVC All-Tournament Team.
