Vedran
Bosnic
"Eurobasket had the pleasure of sitting down with Coach Vedran Bosnic ,former International player in Europe.
Last 3 years Head Coach of Sodertelje Kings and biggest reason why Kings won Swedish Championship this year.
Vedran is just 36 years old, he can be considered for one of most successful Coaches in Sweden ever. He Coaching last 3years and won almost everything ( 3-times in roll Eurobasket Coach of the year, 2-times Coach of the year by SBBF, Semis,Final and won Championship) Very impressive but that's not all he develop allot young players and give them big roles in team.
Many of them is in Swedish NT (Senior,U23,U20,U18)
Bosnic is like a sixth player on the floor for his team. He give always big influence a game and his players. Bosnic told Euro-basket.com "I am always happy if I know my team has done as much as it can possibly do. Then I am content, win or lose."

Did you expect to win the Swedish Championship and what does it mean to you?

I certainly had great hopes and goal to win the Championship, at the same time I was aware of quality and financial power of other teams. I believe in what I do and that gives me strength to always find a way and help my team advance and become better and better from one day to another. It is one of the formulas of our success, as it is huge trust which exists among the players and the coach, and sacrifice we bear due to our hard work and our commitment to basketball. I have already won a championship as a player and winning this one as a coach means a lot to me. At the same time it means additional responsibilities for my future work.

Many basketball experts in Sweden say that "Bosnic and Kings created a revolution in the Swedish basketball" claiming that many teams will try to copy your system and the way your team plays. What do you think about it?

That is a great compliment for me and for my team and if it is only 10% true I am happy about it. How much actually our way of playing will have an effect on other teams and coaches I can't tell, but if it will help other teamsmove up, especially young playersI will be very pleased.

Your philosophy of putting stress on defense is quite famous, as well as special attention you pay to defense and to many different defense techniques. The result of winning a title of the best defense team for Sodertalje Kings in last three years speak for itself. Can you comment please.

I believe in defense and defense gives me very good results. It all starts with defense, and for me it is very important to have a clear picture about a player who has a potential to provide and improve his defense skills and therefore provide high level support to his team. Defense requires a lot of work and knowledge as well as other things and it is one of the most important factors in basketball for me. As I already emphasized, it all starts with defense.

Beside winning and good results your work in promoting young players is noticeable. There are many of them from your team whostand up - Dino Pita, who made senior NT, Tobias Borg, who is only 19 and you give him almost 30 minutes per a game, many say that you deserve credit for his huge progress in last three years?

I am of the opinion that development of young players is same important as winning. I am lucky to have a chance to work with young talented players who are at the sametime very good people so it is easier for me to assist them in reach in higher levels- Dino has a great work attitude and that helped him to improve a lot. Tobbe reached a very high level but step by step. He still has a lot of space for improvement.
It is a great feeling watching a young player improving from one day to another. It would not have happened without a hard work. A talents can help, but without sacrificing and hard work you can not reach goals.

You are also a Head Coach of the University NationalTeam of Sweden who will play at the University Games in Kazan this year. What are your expectations?

The main reason for accepting that job is to determine quality of the players, to see how much I can help them during the summer, and who of those young quality players might have a potential in becoming a member of the senior team in the future.

What are your plans to coach abroad?

We will see. It depends on many things. I am happy in Sodertalje and proud of progress we made in last three years. Of course there is always place for improvement and we will have to work on it in the future. I am certainly ready for a challenge in case of an offer which could help me in quickly advancing as a coach and which would come from a top European club.

What would be your advice to young coaches?

To believe in what they do and to work hard.Without hard work there are no results. Each coach has to be better from one day toanother, from one training to another no matter of age.

Who is your favorite for winning F4 next weekend in London?

All four teams are very good quality teams. Last year no one gave great chances to Olympiacos and they were a real surprise at the end. It is all possible at these types of competition. I believe that Barcelona and CSKA are in a small advantage.

Thank you for your time Coach Vedran Bosnic .. Eurobasket wish you a lot of success in the future"
