Jonas Jerebko selected the top Swedish players playing abroad in last week's games - Mar 31, 2013

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Swedish players who are currently playing abroad.

Jonas Jerebko
Jonas Jerebko
#1. This week's number one is an international power forward Jonas Jerebko (206-87, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Detroit Pistons (24-49) in their last game on Friday. Despite Jerebko's very good performance the Detroit Pistons were badly defeated 99-82 on the road by the Toronto Raptors. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Jerebko also added 5 rebounds. It's Jerebko's fourth season with the team. This year he averages: 6.8ppg, 3.6rpg, 2FGP: 46.4%, 3FGP: 29.2% and FT: 74.2%. Jerebko is a naturalized American. He is currently a member of the Swedish senior national team. Strangely Jerebko has never played in Sweden.

Jeffery Taylor
Jeffery Taylor
#2. Second place goes to former U20 international forward Jeffery Taylor (200-89, college: Vanderbilt, currently plays in NBA). He was not able to help the Charlotte Bobcats (17-56) in their game against the Miami Heat (57-15) in the NBA. Taylor scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. The Charlotte Bobcats were crushed 109-77 in Miami by the Heat. It's Taylor's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 6.1ppg, 1.9rpg, 2FGP: 47.8%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 71.9% in the 70 games he played so far. Taylor is a naturalized American. He played for the Swedish U20 national team in 2008. Apparently Taylor has never played in Sweden.

Andreas Schreiber
Andreas Schreiber
#3. The Swedish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Andreas Schreiber (206-87, agency: Two Points, college: Pennsylvania, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL. He was not able to secure a victory for Plymouth Raiders (19-12) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Schreiber's very good performance Plymouth Raiders was defeated 78-72 in Sheffield by the lower-ranked One Health Sharks (#7). He was the second best scorer with 18 points. Schreiber also added 9 rebounds and made 3 blocks. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Schreiber is currently second on the league's list of best blockers. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.0ppg, 7.1rpg, 2.1bpg, 2FGP: 48.0%. Schreiber is a naturalized American. He is also a member of the Swedish senior national team.

Thomas Massamba
Thomas Massamba
#4. Point guard Thomas Massamba (185-85, currently plays in Bulgaria) contributed to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Tundja Yambol (11-12) 85-68 in the Bulgarian NBL last Friday. Massamba scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. Lukoil Academik Sofia (21-2) is placed first in the NBL. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Massamba is ranked seventh on the list of the best passers in the league with 4.1apg. This year he also averages: 6.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.1spg in the 23 games. Massamba is also Swedish national team player.

Viktor Gaddefors
Viktor Gaddefors
#5. International small forward Viktor Gaddefors (203-92, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Oknoplast BO (8-16) in their game against VL Pesaro (8-17) in the Italian SerieA. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Oknoplast BO was defeated 101-91 on the opponent's court by the one of league's weakest teams VL_Pesaro (#15). Gaddefors' total stats this season are: 5.0ppg and 2.7rpg. He plays currently for the Swedish national team.

Erik Rush
Erik Rush
#6. Small forward Erik Rush (196-88, college: Montana St., currently plays in Italy) managed to help Cimberio Varese in a 3-point victoryagainst the seventh-ranked Trenkwalder RE (14-11) 77-74 in the Italian SerieA in Sunday night's game. Rush scored only 4 points in 8 minutes on the court. Cimberio Varese (19-5) is placed first in the SerieA. This year Rush's total stats are: 3.5ppg and 1.9rpg in the 22 games. He is a naturalized American. Rush is an international player who is currently on the senior Swedish National Team roster. Interesting that he has never played in Sweden.

Kenny Grant
Kenny Grant
#7. International guard Kenny Grant (188-82, college: Davidson, currently plays in France) couldn't help Sluc Nancy (8-17) in their game against Chalon/Saor (17-8) in the French ProA. He recorded 7 points and added 3 assists in only 11 minutes. Sluc Nancy was edged 77-75 on the opponent's court by the much higher-ranked (#3) Chalon/Saor. Grant has averaged so far 3.2ppg and 1.3apg in the 22 games. He is also Swedish national team player.

Jonathan Person
Jonathan Person
#8. Point guard Jonathan Person (192-93, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Oettinger Rockets Gotha (11-19) in their game against Crailsheim Merlins (13-17) in the German ProA (second division). Person scored 8 points. Oettinger Rockets Gotha was defeated 88-73 in Crailsheim by the higher-ranked Merlins (#11). It was Oettinger Rockets Gotha's third consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Person has averaged so far 7.2ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.4apg. He plays currently for the Swedish national team.

The list of other players, who all have Swedish passport but never been selected to any of Swedish national teams:

#1. Maciej Lampe (211-F/C-85, currently plays in Euroleague) was the major contributor in a Caja Laboral's victory against the closely-ranked Khimky (7-6) 86-82 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. He recorded 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. Caja Laboral Vitoria (7-6) is placed sixth in group F. Lampe's team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Top 16. And that game will be critical. Lampe is currently third on the league's list of best rebounders with 6.0rpg. He also averaged so far 13.8ppg in the 23 games he played so far. Lampe has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish.

#2. Demetrius Brown (201-F-83, college: San Jose St., currently plays in Poland), who plays in the Polish TBL could not help Kotwica (6-21) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Brown's good performance the sixth-placed Kotwica was defeated 71-67 on the road by the higher-ranked Start Gdynia (#5) in the Places 7-12 group. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Brown also added 4 rebounds. Brown has relatively good stats this season: 10.6ppg, 5.1rpg and 1.3apg. He is a naturalized American. Brown used to play for Ockelbo BBK in Swedish league.

#3. Hussein Tawbeh (198-F-82, currently plays in Lebanon) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Hoops Club (6-18) in their game against Byblos (13-11) in the Lebanese Division A. Tawbeh cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 14 minutes. Hoops Club was badly defeated 90-74 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked (#6) Byblos. Tawbeh's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And now that game is very crucial. Tawbeh has averaged so far 4.7ppg and 6.5rpg in the 21 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Swedish and Lebanese.
