Shy Ely
American Shy Ely (194-G/F-87, agency: Merit Sports) had a great game in the last round for Boncourt and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 24.
The 25-year old swingman had the game-high 28 points adding four rebounds and five assists for Boncourt in his team's victory, helping them to edge out SAM Massagno (#9, 4-20) in overtime 100-97. Boncourt maintains the 6th position in Swiss LNA. Boncourt is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 9-14 record. In the team's last game Ely had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Boncourt's top player in his first season with the team. University of Evansville graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ely is in league's top in points (8th best: 17.5ppg) and averages solid 44.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 25-year old American Justin Dobbins (203-C/F-87, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) of Starwings. Dobbins impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Starwings lost that game 71-83 to the higher-ranked Neuchatel (#4, 13-11). Starwings managed to keep the same 7th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-16 record. Dobbins is a newcomer at Starwings and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.5ppg (#7). He also registered 7.9 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Clint Chapman (208-F/C-89) of SAM Massagno (#9). Chapman got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds . Despite Chapman's great performance SAM Massagno lost 97-100in overtime to the higher-ranked Boncourt (#6, 9-14). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. SAM Massagno can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-20 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Chapman he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Chapman has individually a great season in Switzerland. After 24 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.7ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 8.7rpg (4th best). He also has 2.7bpg and FGP: 51.4%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Branko Milisavljevic (193-G-76) of Lugano Tigers - 27 points and 7 assists
5. Jamelle Barrett (180-PG-88) of SAM Massagno - 25 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists
6. Marvin Owens (196-G/F-86) of BBC Nyon - 24 points and 7 rebounds
7. Juwann James (198-F/C-87) of Geneve Lions - 17 points and 6 rebounds
8. Oliver Vogt (209-C-80) of Geneve Lions - 18 points and 9 rebounds
9. Daniel Ferguson (191-G-85) of Boncourt - 23 points and 5 rebounds
10. Derek Stockalper (196-SG-84) of Lugano Tigers - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Pully (1-1) on the court of Winterthur on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by Winterthur 80-77. It was a good game for American forward Alex Welsh (200-94, college: Colorado Springs) who led his team to a victory with 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. His fellow Ameri...   [read more]
