Kaspars
Kambala
Ankara D.S.I. Era (TB3L) strengthened their roster with addition of 35-year old Latvian ex-international center Kaspars Kambala (206-113kg-78, college: UNLV, agency: Alti Sport). He played most recently at Pi Koleji (TB2L). In 17 games he recorded very impressive stats: 22.4ppg, 12.2rpg and 1.4apg last season. Great year indeed as he was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Turkish TB2L Center of the Year and voted to 1st Team.
The previous (11-12) season Kambala played at Turk Telekom (TBL). In 30 games he averaged 10.8ppg and 4.6rpg that season. He also played 6 games in EuroChallenge where he averaged 11.7ppg and 4.5rpg.
In 2010-11 season Kambala was tested by Mahram (Superleague) in Iran. He also played at Aliaga Petkim (TBL) that season. In 17 games he averaged remarkable 20.2ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.1apg. The other team Kambala played that season for was Lukoil Academik Sofia (NBL) in Bulgarian league. The team played in three different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 10 NBL games he averaged 14.4ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.1apg. Kambala also played 6 games in EuroChallenge where he was second best scorer with 14.8ppg and had 7.8rpg. He also played 2 games in Eurocup where he averaged 13.0ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.5apg.
In 2009-10 season Kambala played at Enisey Krasnoyarsk (PBL) in Russian league. In 11 games he averaged 14.5ppg and 6.1rpg. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Russian A Superleague Honorable Mention and All-Bosmans Team. He also played 12 games in EuroChallenge where he averaged 12.5ppg and 5.6rpg. Kambala won Turkish League championship title in 2007. He represented Latvia at the European Championships in Poland four years ago. His stats at that event were 3 games: 17.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.0apg.
Kambala has played also professionally in Spain (Real Madrid), Turkey (Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce Ulker) and Russia (Unics Kazan).
He is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Ankara DSI Era.
Kambala attended University of Nevada - Las Vegas until 2001 and it will be his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season in pro basketball.
The scouts decsribe him following way: He is the consummate banger who has a tremendous work ethic. He sacrifices his body on both sides of the court. Offensively, he can run the floor and has the soft touch with great hands. One of the strongest players in the country. Still learning to play and has potential to be a much better player. Not a true 6-9, but is as strong.

Turk Telekom Ankara (TBL) signed 28-year old forward Nusret Yildirim (202-89). He played last season at Muratbey Usak Sportlif Basketbol (BSL). TBL will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. The last season Yildirim played at Acibadem where in 44 TBL games he had 7.7ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.1apg.
