On August 23 a groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the start of the new multi-purpose complex KHARKIV ARENA construction in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. The construction of the sport venue is part of the country preparation for the staging of the FIBA EuroBasket 2015 Championship. Commissioning of KHARKIV ARENA will be a next step of the country in setting an international venue for staging major cultural and sport events.
Having received high accolade from world community, sports fans, and mass media following the staging of UEFA Euro in 2012, Ukraine is making preparations for hosting of the FIBA EuroBasket 2015 Championship . UEFA Euro left a rich legacy in the form of renovated airports, railway communication with high-speed trains, repaired roads, and new motorways. Development of the countrys sports infrastructure continues with preparation to Eurobasket-2015. Last Friday construction of the KHARKIV ARENA was launched that will host a first stage of the European Basketball Championship in 2015.
Kharkov is a city with sport traditions, EURO-2012 had been successfully held there, and now the city is ready to hold Eurobasket-2015, commented the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Vilkul. At the moment all the preparatory work at the construction site is completed, and today the start of construction was officially announced. Our arena is unique because it is multifunctional. Competitions in a hundred kinds of sports, as well as concerts and exhibitions may be held here, - added the speaker.
The KHARKIV ARENA project will cost around 33 million Euro to build. A principle investor is Eastern European Fuel and Energy Company (VETEK) which invests in crude oil refining, liquefied natural gas, petroleum products, and natural gas trading business in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Kazakhstan, the company also invests in media.
KHARKIV ARENA will meet all requirements and regulations of FIBA Europe. Sport venue capacity will exceed 7000 seats, the project includes mobile and stationary spectator stands, sky-boxes, training halls, and sports school premises. There will be special areas for journalists, separate stands and parking lots for television reporting vans. During the design stage experience of the leading world sport venues constructions was evaluated.
I am sure the KHARKIV ARENA is to become a center of gravity not only for city residents, but the entire country. Technical facilities make it possible to use it as a venue for various sports, concert, exhibition, and other events. It is especially important to note that the complex is designed with regard to the needs of disabled people, marked the Chairman of Supervisory Board for VETEK GC Sergiy Kurchenko.
Investments into preparation for the FIBA EuroBasket 2015 Championship will total about 1 billion Euros, of which about 450 million Euro is private investors money that will be spent on construction of six new sport venues including KHARKIV ARENA. Thus Ukraine is taking up ever more secure positions in the European sports arena, and Europe in its turn acquires ultramodern venues for development of European sports and staging world-class contests.
