Higher League Round 36: Leader Musson loses to Avantazh-Politekhnik - Apr 23, 2013

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in Higher League.

Top ranked Musson (32-4) recorded its fourth loss in Kharkov on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Avantazh-Politekhnik (31-5) 88-73. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Timur Arabadzhi (192-81) who scored 40 points (!!!) and 4 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Forward Anton Rochnyak (206-91) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Nikola Eromin (207-85) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Avantazh-Politekhnik have an impressive 19-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 31-5 record behind leader Musson. Newly promoted Musson still keeps top place with four games lost. Avantazh-Politekhnik are again looking forward to face league's leader Musson in Symferopil in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Musson will have a break next round.
Eighth-ranked Kirovograd (14-22) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked VolinBasket (19-17) in Lutsk. VolinBasket managed to secure only two-point victory 114-112. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a good game for power forward Vadim Reka (206-83) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Artem Shelukha contributed with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. VolinBasket's coach Sergei Smityukh allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Center Olexander Osnach (201-90) replied with 31 points and 7 rebounds for Kirovograd. VolinBasket maintains fourth position with 19-17 record, which they share with Tornado. Kirovograd at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 22 games lost. They share the position with Koksokh-Stal. VolinBasket will again play against Kirovograd (#7) at home in the next round. Kirovograd will have a break next round.
The game in Alchevsk supposed to be also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Tornado (19-17) played at the court of 7th ranked Koksokh-Stal (14-22). Tornado did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 93-73 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of Sergey Lapenko who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was Boris Bereziuk with 23 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tornado have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with VolinBasket. Loser Koksokh-Stal keeps the seventh position with 22 games lost. They share it with Kirovograd. Tornado will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Koksokh-Stal will play again against Tornado (#5) in Odessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 36 BK Kremen was defeated by Pulsar in Rovno 102-84. Khartsyzsk smashed Ternopil at home 92-73.
The best stats of 36th round was 34 points (!!!) and 9 assists by Ilya Shemosyuk of Pulsar.


Pulsar - BK Kremen 102-84

There was no surprise in Rovno where 9th ranked BK Kremen (2-31) was defeated by sixth ranked BC-93 Pulsar (18-17) 102-84 on Monday. BC-93 Pulsar forced 21 BK Kremen turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Ilya Shemosyuk (188-85) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and 9 assists and power forward Evgeni Vornik (207-86, agency: Promotex) who added 22 points during the contest. BC-93 Pulsar's coach Mikhail Pereverziy used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Russian center Igor Chumichev (209-89) with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and center Gleb Glebov (208-82) scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. BC-93 Pulsar maintains sixth position with 18-17 record. BK Kremen lost fourteenth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 31 games lost. BC-93 Pulsar will again meet at home BK Kremen (#9) in the next round. BK Kremen will have a break next round.

VolinBasket - Kirovograd 114-112

Eighth-ranked Kirovograd (14-22) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked VolinBasket (19-17) in Lutsk. VolinBasket managed to secure only two-point victory 114-112. However their fans expected much easier game. VolinBasket dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Kirovograd's 56. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Kirovograd was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for power forward Vadim Reka (206-83) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Artem Shelukha (198-87) contributed with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. VolinBasket's coach Sergei Smityukh allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Khartsyzsk - Ternopil 92-73

No shocking result in a game in Donetsk where third ranked Khartsyzsk (27-9) smashed bottom-ranked Ternopil-TNEU (1-33) 92-73 on Saturday. Khartsyzsk dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Ternopil-TNEU's 38. They outrebounded Ternopil-TNEU 45-30 including 18 on the offensive glass. Khartsyzsk looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Ternopil-TNEU's players. Worth to mention a great performance of center Anatolii Chelovan (206-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and the former international guard Bogdan Karebin (201-78, college: Buffalo) who added 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Khartsyzsk's coach Vladimir Bryaukhavetshy used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Anton Nifonton (190-89) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Evgeni Beruk (192-95) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Khartsyzsk maintains third position with 27-9 record having five points less than leader Musson. Ternopil-TNEU lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 33 lost games. Khartsyzsk will again meet at home bottom-ranked Ternopil-TNEU (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ternopil-TNEU will have a break next round.

Eskisehir Basket (TBL) signed 30-year old Ukrainian international center Viacheslav Kravtsov (212-115kg-87, agency: BeoBasket). He played last season at Valencia Basket in Spanish Liga Endesa.
