Ukraine gained a crucial win at the U18 European Championship. They overcame Slovenia in Riga today to stay hopeful of their Division A spot for the next season. Ukraine will fight against relegation versus Bosnia and Herzegovina tomorrow. Slovenia lost their Division A spot with the loss tonight. Yevgen Sakhniuk (201-PF-95) posted 17 points for the winners.
Ukraine eked out a 13:11 lead after ten minutes of action. They boosted the gap in the second term. Ukraine accumulated a 32:27 halftime lead. Slovenia however denied the deficit in the third term. Matic Matic Rebec (180-PG-95) put them in front 37:36. Slovenia led by as many as six points but Ukraine evened things up at 46 heading into the fourth frame. Ukraine opened the fourth frame with eight points in a row to surge ahead. Matic Matic Rebec and Jure Ritlop (203-PF-95) erased the deficit and gave Slovenia a 56:54 lead. Slovenia led by five points 60:55 with under three minutes remaining. But Ukraine sparked an 11:0 rally to clinch a 66:60 lead with 50 seconds remaining. Zatezic drained a triple but Yevgen Sakhniuk sank a jumper after an offensive rebound to seal the win for Ukraine. Stanislav Kudrya (189-PG-95) chipped in 15 points, while Andrii Shalamov (96) added 12 points for the winners. Matic Rebec answered with 20 points, 10 assists and 6 boards for Slovenia. Jure Ritlop and Jan Dolensek (202-PF-95) had 11 points each in the loss.

Both teams stayed close to each other, Croatia won the first period 18-17, but then Ukraine replied with a 22-16 run.
