Ukraine celebrated the first win at the classification round Group G at the U20 European Championship. They prevailed against Czech Republic in Tallinn today. Vladyslav Koreniuk (207-C-94) scored 22 points to lead the winners.
It was all about Ukraine in the first three periods. They poured in 29 points in the first ten minutes to gain a 10-point lead. Ukraine stretched the gap to as many as 15 points at the interval 41:56. Ukraine stayed in control throughout the third quarter. They raced to a comfortable 23-point lead before the final stanza. But Czech Republic did not surrender. They ignited a massive rally in the final period to get within 6 points 81:87 with 52 seconds remaining. But Klym Artamonov (186-PG-93) sank two free throws to calm things down as Ukraine got away with the victory. Anatoliy Shundel (194-SG-93) chipped in 21 points, while Klym Artamonov netted 18 points, 9 assists and 3 boards in the victory. Martin Kriz (204-PF-93) answered with 25 points for Czech Republic. Samuel Faifr (200-PF-93) banked 12 points in the loss.

SK Cherkasy Monkeys (Superleague) signed 31-year old American center Marvin Jefferson (206-107kg-86, college: Idaho). He played last season at Mugla Orman in Turkish TBL league. In 25 games he had 14.3ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.6apg and 1.9bpg. Jefferson also played that season for BM Slam Stal (also in TBL) where in 5 games he recorded 4.8ppg and 4.4rpg. Avantazh-Politekhnik Kharkov (Superleague) added to their roster 22-year old Serbian point guard Vuk Jovanovic (183-95). He played last season at Sloga in Serbian KLS league. In 15 games he recorded 11.8ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.3apg and 1.0spg. Jovanovic also played that season for The Ere (also in KLS) where in 11 games he averaged 14.4ppg, 2.5rpg and 3.2apg. BK Khimik-OPZ Yuhzny (Superleague) signed 30-year old forward Vitali Malchevskiy (203-98kg-87). It is actually his comeback to Yuzhny as he has played here before. Malchevskiy played last season at Zaporizhya in Ukrainian Superleague. In 8 games he had very impressive stats: 15.4ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.4spg.
