Jarvis Jones
Literally two days before the sensational and surprising news that Plymouth Raiders had sacked Coach Gavin Love on the eve of the season, Eurobasket spoke with one of his summer recruits to the South-West side about his hopes for the forthcoming season.

Jarvis Jones (188-PG-90, college: E.Tenn.St.) is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and a rookie professional who is heading to The BBL after a fantastic senior college year that saw the sharp shooting scoring guard more than double his scoring average and significantly increase his all-round stats.

EuroBasket did confirm with Jones that he was happy for the answers and words he had expressed being published in the wake of Love's departure and the 23-year old rookie confirmed he was happy to have his interview published in its original form.

Hi Jarvis and welcome To The British Basketball League. Do you know much about the league?

Well all I know is that this league is very athletic with good teams.

How about Plymouth Raiders? What do you know about them?

I love them. I think that they are a great organization and I'm ready to start playing for them.

How did the deal to move to Plymouth come about?

Well my agent set everything up and I enjoyed talking to Coach Love on the phone and I think this would be a great situation for me to start my career.

How excited about the opportunity were you?

I was very excited and blessed that the Plymouth Raiders Organization are giving me the opportunity to live my dream playing basketball for a living.

Did you speak with Coach Love?

Yes I spoke to Coach Love a couple of times over the summer talking about this upcoming season.

What are your thoughts about coming to England ?

I'm just excited to travelling to England to play basketball and see new things honestly.

Your last year at East Tennessee State was spectacularly personally and you made a huge leap forward, what do you put that down too?

Well the summer going into that season I worked really hard and I was highly motivated. My dream was to play basketball for a living since I was a kid, and I know playing basketball was a good way to make a living and take care of my family and soon to be family meaning (my son and fiance).

It must have been nice to have been named to the Atlantic Sun All-2nd team as you left college?

Yes I was very blessed to accomplish that before I left college.

What were your highlights and lowlights from your time at E. Tenn. State?

I think my highlights where there was one week I average like 29.5 points a game, and my lowlights would be the game I played against VCU.

What will you take from your time at college in to the professional game?

I will take my work ethic I'm a gym rat I'm always taking to find a way to get better.

Have you always wanted to be a professional basketball player?

Yes ever since I was a little kid.

You are described as a Point Guard, what would you say are your best basketball attributes?

I think my best attributes are scoring, setting my teammates up and playing the pick and roll game.

What are you hoping you can bring to the Raiders?

I'm hoping to bring a lot of energy to them I'm going to be the youngest one on the team so I'm looking forward to learning a lot from my teammates because they have been playing on the pro level.

What are your personal goals for this season?

My personal goal is to try and be the best rookie in the league, and help my teammates the best that I can.

It remains to be seen who will take over at Plymouth in the wake of the dramatic developments with Academy Coach Jay Marriott the favourite according to local sources. Disposed Surrey coach Creon Raftopoulos is also a name being linked with the job.

Whatever does happen, Jones is coming in to a different situation than he was anticipating but is still very much focused on delivering what he believes will be a major contribution to the Raiders cause.
