Pops
Mensah-Bonsu
Cimberio Varese (SerieA) signed 30-year old British ex-international forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu (206-83, college: G.Washington, agency: SportsTalent). He just played at Cajasol in Spanish ACB league. In 6 games he had 6.3ppg and 4.8rpg this season. Mensah-Bonsu also spent pre-season at Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv (Winner League) in Israel earlier that year. The last season he played at Besiktas (TBL) in Turkish league. In 33 games he recorded 12.8ppg and 7.8rpg. He helped them to win the league title (in both Turkish League and EuroChallenge !!!) and the cup. A very impressive season as he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Turkish League Center of the Year, named to 1st Team and named to All-Imports Team. Mensah-Bonsu also played 11 games in EuroChallenge where he recorded very remarkable stats: 18.5ppg, 11.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.0bpg. He contributed to his team winning the EuroChallenge championship. Quite impressive season as he was voted Eurobasket.com All-EuroChallenge Player of the Year, Eurobasket.com All-EuroChallenge European Player of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-EuroChallenge Defensive Player of the Year.
The previous (10-11) season Mensah-Bonsu played at ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (ProA) in French league. In 14 games he recorded also great stats: 16.5ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.4spg. He contributed to his team making it to the semifinals. The other team Mensah-Bonsu played shortly were the Hornets in NBA. But in 7 games he recorded only 0.3ppg and 1.6rpg. He was tried-out by Caja Laboral (ACB) in Spain earlier that season. He contributed to his team making it to the supercup semifinals. Mensah-Bonsu was voted All-Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player of the Year back in 2004 at his college time. Mensah-Bonsu also represented United Kingdom at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) last year. His stats at that event were 4 games: 11.5ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.0apg, FGP: 45.5%, FT: 76.2%.
Mensah-Bonsu has played also professionally in Russia (CSKA Moscow), NBA (New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors) and D-League (Austin Toros).
He attended George Washington University until 2006 and it is his seventh season as a professional player.
Mensah-Bonsu could be described: An inside operator who grew up almost 4 inches during the last year of high school and the first of college. Has an incredible leaping ability for a man his size and he's yet working on his game around the basket. Can finish with thunderous dunks and intimidates in the middle. He's also a good rebounder and forces the opponents to make a lot of fouls on him, but he should improve his FT prcentage and his outside shooting to play at the top European level.

Manchester drop curtain on Senior Playoff Finals with D1M win - 2 days ago
Manchester retained their D1M Playoff title after a comfortable 73-53 win over Loughborough. A poor 2nd quarter where the Riders fell behind and shot just 2/15 from the floor proved too much to overcome against a well drilled and talented Magic side. Unable to call upon the injured Josh Ward-Hibbert, Loughborough struggled to find answers on offence for the duration. With the game meandering through the 2nd half, an altercation between Lee Goldsborough and Jonas Dieterich during a loose b...   [read more]

Kent add playoff glory to league winning season - 2 days ago
In a tightly contested game that was fit for a final, Kent managed to outlast rivals Thames Valley 90-87. Consistently playing catch up in the final quarter after a poor 3rd period, the Cavs rallied from a double digit deficit before coming up just short on the final buzzer. Trailing by 3 with less than 10 seconds on the clock, Thames Valley had one last roll of the dice to try and force the game into OT. Inbounding the ball to star man Martelle McLemore (197-G/F-88, college: W.Michigan),...   [read more]
