Theres a repeat of last seasons National Cup final in the West Country as Bristol Academy Flyers host Leeds Carnegie in the National Trophy on Saturday.
Carnegie won the Cup with a thrilling 66-64 victory in Sheffield back in January and as well as revenge, Andreas Kapoulas' side will look to bounce back after last weeks surprise 69-66 loss at Hemel Storm.
Flyers have kept the bulk of the side which finished runner-up in Division One for the second straight season in 2012/13 but Carnegie have made several additions. 6'8" Croatian forward Branimir Mikulic (203-F-89, college: High Point) joins the club from NCAA Division I school High Point. He had a stellar career for the Panthers in the Big South Conference shooting over 38% from the perimeter whilst also grabbing 3.5 rebounds per game. Mikulic will join up with fellow Croatian Ilija Ivankovic (208-C-90, college: Charlotte) to form a formidable front court duo for Carnegie and Leeds have also added GB under-20 forward Rowell Graham (197-F-94) who shone for National Trophy winners Essex Leopards last season.
While they lost the Cup final against Carnegie, Bristol came out on top in the two league fixtures including a 67-66 win on the final day of the league season which cost the home side home court advantage in the play-offs.
Elsewhere is Group Two of the competition (which is effectively the EBL Division One league cup), Newman (NASSA) Neptunes made their top flight derby with a home game against Hemel Storm. The east London club have made rapid progress through the lower divisions, winning a second tier treble last season. Meanwhile, Steve Darlows Hemel side will come into the game on a high following their victory against Bristol and will look for the win that will give them one foot in the knockout stage of the competition they reached the semi-final of last season.
The final game of the weekend in Group Two sees a battle of the Warriors as Westminster host Leicester. The two teams met in the final game of the regular season last year, and Karl Browns Leicester won 79-66 to complete a double against the London side.

Worcester cruise past Bristol in preseason - 1 day ago
Worcester Wolves eased past Bristol Flyers 87-71 in pre-season action at the University of Worcester Arena on Monday. It was newly-appointed club captain Ashton Khan (183-PG, college: Tiffin) who started the scoreboard ticking with a basket and a bonus free throw. His backcourt companion Elvisi Dusha (188-G-94) made an immediate impact with a steal and a behind-the-head pass for Alex Navajas to convert, pushing Wolves 15-5 ahead. Newly-signed American forward Trayvon Palmer (198-G, colleg...   [read more]

Away teams on form in Patrons Cup - 1 day ago
Essex Leopards' Division Two debut ended in defeat as David Watts (206-F-83) led Nottingham Hoods to a 79-73 Patrons Cup victory at the Brentwood Centre, on Sunday. Watts finished with 25 points and Delaney Powell 23 as the Hoods put themselves in the driving seat in Group Four. There was nothing to choose between the two sides for the first three periods. Euan James gave Hoods an 18=17 lead at the first break but Wes Moore looked to have sent Leopards into the half time break with the l...   [read more]
