Joe Prunty
Seventeen players have been invited to join Joe Prunty 's first Standard Life GB Senior Men's Squad who commence training at the FA National Football Centre at St. George's Park on Friday 2nd August. The EuroBasket 2013 squad features seven familiar faces from last year's Olympic team, Kieron Achara (208-PF-83, agency: Two Points, college: Duquesne), Eric Boateng (208-C-85, agency: Interperformances, college: Arizona St.), Daniel Clark (210-F/C-88), Kyle Johnson (195-G-88, agency: SportsTalent, college: LIU Brooklyn), Andrew Lawrence (185-PG-90, agency: Two Points), Pops Mensah-Bonsu (206-F-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: G.Washington) and Drew Sullivan. Prunty has also named three new selections, Orlan Jackman (201-F-88, college: Oklahoma City), Flo Larkai and Liam Potter (213-F/C-86, college: Sacred Heart) who have been called up for the first time and will join the other exciting young prospects of Miles Hesson, Devon Van Oostrum (190-G-93) and Alex Marcutuilo. The success of the GB development programmes are clear to see with eight graduates from past GB Futures teams selected for the senior squad again in 2013, including Ogooluwa Adegboye (182-PG-87, college: St.Bonaventure), Matthew Bryan-Amaning (205-F-88, agency: Interperformances, college: Washington), Ashley Hamilton (201-F-88) and Justin Robinson (187-PG-87, agency: Two Points, college: Rider). Standard Life GB head coach, Joe Prunty commented on his selected squad: "I'm excited to be working with both the veteran GB players and the new up and coming talent this summer. Myself and my coaching team are ready for the challenge ahead and committed to getting the best out of the squad to make the GB family and fans proud." Veteran Drew Sullivan, said: "This will be my seventh summer representing my country and I can honestly say I'm enjoying it just as much. Everyone in the squad understands the task at hand. We know it will be difficult but it's something we are all looking forward to." There are some notable names missing from the squad list, NBA stars Luol Deng and Joel Freeland are unavailable to partake in this summer's EuroBasket campaign due to ill health and NBA development reasons respectively. The team has also seen the retirements of Robert Archibald and Nate Reinking, who has taken up an assistant coaching position with the team. The team's first preparation game will be against Puerto Rico at the Copper Box in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London at on August 11th. The team will then travel to Finland, Greece, Poland and Spain for further preparation fixtures ahead of EuroBasket at the beginning of September. Full fixture list available here. Speaking about the absence of Deng from the squad, Joe Prunty said: "Obviously we're disappointed that Luol's recovery from illness prevents him from playing. His health comes first and we wish him a full and speedy recovery. Luol's commitment to the programme and to British Basketball's aspirations is beyond question. We look forward to having him back with us fully fit for our next campaign." Deng explains his difficult decision, he said: "It's one of those decisions that you have to use your head over your heart. After the medical tests, it just simply isn't safe for me to put my body through that amount during the summer. It's tough to take. People know how much it means to me playing for GB. I will of course be supporting the team and keeping up with their progress. It's not ideal but I'm confident that the guys can be successful at EuroBasket in Slovenia." Joel Freeland commented on his unavailability because of his professional commitments, he said: "It's a tough decision for me, because I have been with GB for everything up to this moment. I remain fully committed and very motivated to continue to be a part of the National Team and continue to help build the programme in an effort to take it as far as we possibly can. At this time, it's crucial that I remain with my NBA work, as it is a pretty pivotal part of my career." National Teams Director, Warwick Cann commented: "We have exciting young players who have a long international future ahead of them and they will be well prepared for the challenge ahead. We have quality experience through veterans Pops [Mensah-Bonsu], Drew [Sullivan] and Dan [Clark]. "We have identified our areas of improvement, employed an excellent coaching team and will use the state of the art FA National Football Centre as our preparation base. Everyone is committed to the task at hand and we hope to continue the overall GB basketball success this summer."

Manchester drop curtain on Senior Playoff Finals with D1M win - 1 day ago
Manchester retained their D1M Playoff title after a comfortable 73-53 win over Loughborough. A poor 2nd quarter where the Riders fell behind and shot just 2/15 from the floor proved too much to overcome against a well drilled and talented Magic side. Unable to call upon the injured Josh Ward-Hibbert, Loughborough struggled to find answers on offence for the duration. With the game meandering through the 2nd half, an altercation between Lee Goldsborough and Jonas Dieterich during a loose b...   [read more]

Kent add playoff glory to league winning season - 15 hours ago
In a tightly contested game that was fit for a final, Kent managed to outlast rivals Thames Valley 90-87. Consistently playing catch up in the final quarter after a poor 3rd period, the Cavs rallied from a double digit deficit before coming up just short on the final buzzer. Trailing by 3 with less than 10 seconds on the clock, Thames Valley had one last roll of the dice to try and force the game into OT. Inbounding the ball to star man Martelle McLemore (197-G/F-88, college: W.Michigan),...   [read more]

Middlesex LTBC take D3 Playoff win after epic battle - 15 hours ago
In a Final that should be remembered as an instant classic, both Team Birmingham Elite and Middlesex LTBC left everything out on the court in an attempt to secure the D3M Playoff Championship.
