London United Players To Play In French League - Jul 9, 2013

London United - Harefield Academy has joined forces with Buckinghamshire New University and BCM Gravelines Grand Fort Philippe to create a basketball programme with students completing a BSc in Sport Science and Coaching Theory . This course will offer an absolutely unique approach to the education of potential coaches and professional players from Great Britain and across Europe. Students will be offered the opportunity to compete in Mens Div 2 in England whilst simultaneously participating in the French Regional League Cup competition, Leroux Challenge with a guaranteed 16 games in France.
To maximise their exposure to European professional basketball, students participating in the degree will take part in lectures delivered by coaching staff from BCM Gravelines (Pro A regular season winner 2012/13 and Final Four of Eurochalenge). In addition students will have on court training sessions everyday with unrestricted access to strength and conditioning facilities.
In terms of academic provision the degree will consist of 16 modules all designed to complement their basketball performance. Alongside the degree students will have the opportunity to gain vocational qualifications including UKCC Basketball Coaching Level h1 and 2 and Health and Fitness Instructor level 2 and 3. The programme also offers students the opportunity to gain crucial coaching experience through London United Basketball Clubs community and junior programmes.
Head Coach of London United Harefield Academy, Jack Majewski was understandably excited when he declared his verdict on the degree I really believe that our degree addresses one of the most pronounced weaknesses of British basketball which is a chronic lack of regular contact with the European scene. We couldnt realistically talk about the education of players and coaches without exposing them to European basketball. Joining a foreign competition which offers potentially over 20 games is a fantastic opportunity for young players to taste all aspects of life of a professional player in addition to amazing opportunities and exposure.

President of BCM Gravelines, Christian Devos underlined the pragmatic aspects of cooperation with English academic institutions saying We are fully aware what natural talent Great Britain posses .It is very sensible for us to assist these athletes with our expertise and provide them with the opportunity to flourish. Its quite possible that soon some of them will end up in the French leagues, perhaps even our Club
Apart from opportunities for active players the course will also provide an option for young coaches who alongside the degree will gain extensive coaching practical experience with London Uniteds junior programmes participating in the English Basketball National League.
Prospective students (both players and coaches) interested in this programme should contact London United at: events@londonunited.eu
