Luol Deng (206-F-85, agency: Interperformances, college: Duke) and Joel Freeland (208-F-87) shock Great Britain as they will not help the National team at EuroBasket 2013.
Luol Deng played last season at the Bulls in NBA. In 80 games he recorded very impressive stats: 16.3ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.0apg and 1.1spg. He helped them to make it to the conference semifinals. Great season indeed as he was voted to NBA All-Star Game.
In 2004 Deng was drafted by Chicago Bulls (NBA) in first round (7th overall). The former Duke University star is in his tenth season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements Deng won NBA Central Division championship title for two years in a row (2011 and 2012). He received also NBA All-Defensive 2nd Team award in 2012. Deng represented United Kingdom at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) last year. His stats at that event were 5 games: 15.8ppg, 6.6rpg, 4.6apg, 1.4spg, FGP: 39.2%, 3PT: 20.0%, FT: 69.2%.
Joel Freeland played at the Trail Blazers in NBA. In 51 games he had just 2.6ppg and 2.3rpg. The previous (11-12) season he played at Unicaja Malaga (Liga Endesa) in Spanish league. In 31 games he recorded 12.9ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.0apg that season. A very impressive year as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Spanish ACB 3rd Team. Freeland also played 14 games in Euroleague where he recorded 12.8ppg and 6.7rpg (#5 in the league). Quite impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Euroleague Honorable Mention.
In 2006 he was drafted by Portland Trail Blazers (NBA) in first round (30th overall). Freeland's team made it to the ACB Semifinals in 2010. He also represented United Kingdom at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) last year. His stats at that event were 5 games: 14.6ppg, 6.6rpg, FGP: 52.0%, 3PT: 28.6%, FT: 90.0%.
Freeland has played previously professionally in D-League (Idaho Stampede) and Spain (Herbalife Gran Canaria 2014 and Gran Canaria).
