Raiders Re-Sign Schreiber - Jul 12, 2013

Andreas
Schreiber
The Plymouth University Raiders have pulled off a sensational coup, by re-signing one of their standout players from last season, 6'9", Swedish centre, Andreas Schreiber (206-C-87, agency: Two Points, college: Pennsylvania).

It was thought that with his performances last season, and being selected to play for Sweden in the Eurobasket tournament later in the summer, competition would be high for his signature. However, Schreiber enjoyed playing in Plymouth for the Raiders last year, and was keen to return to the city for the 2013/14 season.

Coach Gavin Love has made no secret of his desire to build the team around Schreiber this coming season. With Andreas being the team's first signing, this allows Love to do just that.

"We're delighted that Andreas will be returning to the Raiders next season," said Love. "He's the key signing that I've needed all summer, and I can now set about building a team around him that will play high paced, aggressive basketball, getting us back to the kind of performances that fans enjoyed in my first couple of seasons coaching the team."

Schreiber played 20 games for the Raiders last season, after joining them in January. He averaged 12.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.8 blocks per game, while shooting 80% from the free throw line. He was also named as the Eurobasket Bosman Player of the Year. He formed a formidable forward line with American power forward Matt Schneck, and loves sees him as being crucial to the team's success this season.

"He played hard every game for us," added Love. "Having the confidence that you have a player like Andreas at the heart of the defence, allows the whole team to become a lot more aggressive. Offensively, he gives us a real inside presence, someone we can go to when we need a big basket inside."
