Veteran Myers Is Back Again - Jun 20, 2013

Shawn Myers has agreed to become John Lavery's first official signing as he sets about rebuilding the Cheshire Phoenix's BBL Championship squad.

The seasoned veteran has time and again proved to his doubters that age is just a number. Last season, as the Phoenix was rising from the ashes to preserve the professional status of basketball in the country, Myers' experience and conditioning allowed him to average 10.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, pulling down 213 defensive rebounds in the process.

Speaking about his decision to tip-off his 12th career BBL campaign with the Phoenix Myers said: "I have been through a lot of ups and downs with this club, but last season demonstrated exactly how much this franchise means to the supporters.

"That is exactly the kind of support that an athlete wants. When you are trying to perform at your best you don't need drama, you need to focus on the task at hand and have strong support behind you. That is what the fans here provide.

"With John Lavery and Mike Burton in charge and strong leadership at the helm, I wanted to be a part of what the club is building. I can still deliver on the court and if I can help some of the younger players who come in to adapt to the BBL and become strong players perhaps we can bring success back top this great club. The fans deserve that."

John Lavery said that to retain one of the BBL's most experienced players was a huge boost to his preparations.

"I said at the outset that I came back to win things," he said. "This league is full of wily, experienced campaigners. If you want to be successful, you need to have a player on the court and in training who has that unrivalled knowledge of how those players and teams work. Shawn gives us that edge. No-one has more experience than him plus he can still go out there and give you 20 points and 15 rebounds against players half his age.

"Shawn is the first piece of the puzzle for us. What he brings will mix well with the other players we are looking at and I believe that will make us real contenders for honours this season."

Townsville Heat adds Anderson to their roster, ex Cheshire P. - 13 hours ago
Townsville Heat (QBL) added to their roster 27-year old British forward Jamell Anderson (200-90). He just played at Cheshire Phoenix in British BBL league. In 33 games he recorded 10.7ppg, 5.0rpg, 2.5apg and 1.9spg this season. The last season Anderson played at Leicester Riders (also in BBL) where in 34 games he averaged 6.6ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.5apg. He helped them to win the regular season and make it to the final. They also played in the Cup final. A very spectacular season in his career...   [read more]

BBL All-Star Five - Week 29 - 22 hours ago
It's our penultimate line-up of 2016-17 and while a trio took their last opportunity to shine as their respective seasons came to an end, two of our starters will be hoping to re-appear as they head into the Play-Offs! Mike DiNunno (Cheshire Phoenix) As the curtain fell on an eventful season at Phoenix, the playmaker signed off his participation in spectacular style with a typically influential contribution. Di Nunno lit it up at Cheshire Oaks Arena against Leeds Force by harvesting a ma...   [read more]
