With the BBL Trophy 24 hours away, it was left to the chasing pack to try and secure their play-off berths along with the top four teams in the BBL Championship table.

Friday night's action saw Surrey Heat, Worcester Wolves and Durham Wildcats all pick up important victories in the chase for the postseason.

The Heat made the long trip to the North East to face the Newcastle Eagles and came away with an impressive 94-100 victory at Sport Central.

19 points from Travis Holmes (193-G-86, college: VMI) helped the Heat on their way, while a 31-point haul from Charles Smith was the leading total of the night for the home side.

The Eagles trailed by as many as 21 points in the third quarter, but an impressive 16-0 start to the final period got the home side back to within three points at 79-82.

A Smith basket got the Eagles to within a point a minute later at 82-83, but that was as close as they would get as the Heat held off the challenge in the closing stages and secured the all-important victory to remain in fifth position in the table.

The Wolves moved themselves into joint fifth place with the Heat thanks to a slightly more comfortable 94-76 victory over the London Lions at Worcester University.

A 22-9 start to the game from the Wolves set the tone for the majority of the contest as the home side led from tip-to-buzzer and were able to hold off a resilient fightback from the Lions in the closing stages to secure the all-important victory.

25 points from Alex Owumi was the standout performance for the Wolves in the victory, while veteren Rod Brown bagged 20 points of his own for the Lions in the defeat.

At the other end of the table, the Wildcats remained in eleventh position in the table, but moved level on points with the One Health Sharks Sheffield in eighth place thanks to a 76-87 victory over the Mersey Tigers at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park.

Andrew Keister's 18 points was the leading mark for the Wildcats as the visitors spread their scoring around.

The Tigers kept plugging away in front of their partizan crowd, but they were unable to stop the Wildcats in the closing stages as they pulled away in the final moments to leave the Tigers still searching for that crucial first victory of the season.
