Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders have extended their lead at the top of the BBL Championship table with a 79-76 win over Surrey Heat. Jay Couisnard scored the game winning points with a trio of free throws, having been fouled by Travis Holmes with 3 seconds to go.

Heat lead by double digits for most of the game, thanks in large part to a 19-5 run early on, but Riders forced their way back in with a 27-6 run near the end that put them ahead 66-63, setting up the chance for Couisnard to win the game.

Riders' Drew Sullivan (203-F-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Villanova) scored 26 points, including 3 treys. Sullivan made 10/16 field goal attempts and pulled down 11 rebounds to complete a double-double. Jay Couisnard scored 23 points. For Heat, their scorers were led by Travis Holmes with 24 points.

Earlier on Saturday, One Health Sharks Sheffield beat playoff rivals London Lions 79-63. After a close contest with neither side able to pull out in front, Sharks finished the game with a 27-6 run to claim the victory.

Sharks' Mike Tuck led all scorers with 25 points, while BJ Holmes had 20 points for Sharks. Demetrius Jemison finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Lions' scorers were jointly led by Rod Brown and Tayo Ogedengbe with 14 points each.

After the night's results, Riders are now 4 points clear of Newcastle Eagles at the top of the BBL Championship table. They also have a game in hand, which will take place on Sunday when they host Marjon Plymouth Raiders. Heat remain one of the four teams with six points less than the Eagles, but having played more games than any of those other teams, they now sit sixth in the table.

Just below Heat are London Lions who are 10 points adrift, sitting on 24 points from 30 games. Sharks are now just 2 points behind them, occupying the eighth and final playoff spot, with four games in hand.

Surrey Scorchers (BBL) re-signed 30-year old forward Tayo Ogedengbe (198-95kg-87). He has played there for the last two seasons. In 35 BBL games he recorded 14.7ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.2apg and 1.1spg last season. Among other achievements Ogedengbe's team made it to the British BBL Cup final in 2015. He received also Eurobasket.com British BBL All-Domestic Players Team award back in 2013. Ogedengbe represented United Kingdom at the 3x3 World Championships in Greece five years ago. Comercial Ulsa Ciudad de Valladolid (LEB Silver) confirmed in their roster 23-year old British forward Rowell Graham (197-94). He played there last season.
