Rob
Paternostro
Saturday night saw Rob Paternostro and the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders took another step closer to their first BBL Championship regular season title, while the Manchester Giants kept their postseason hopes alive as the season draws to a close.

The Riders needed an impressive third quarter to overturn a eight point deficit to secure an 84-71 victory over the Glasgow Rocks at John Sanford Centre.

An impressive third quarter display from the Riders saw them outscore their opponents 28-10, including a 19-4 burst to take the score out to 59-41 midway through the period.

The Rocks tried valiantly to get themselves back into the contest but could get no closer than 12 points at 83-71 down the stretch as the Riders held on for the all-important victory.

The Giants moved above the Cheshire Phoenix into ninth position in the table thanks to an equally impressive 82-91 victory over the Worcester Wolves at Worcester University.

29 points from David Watts was the leading mark for the Giants, but it was Alex Owumi's 30 points for the home side that was the game-high scoring mark for the Wolves.

The Giants had trailed early in the contest at 19-13, but they fought their way back in the second quarter and a 15-2 burst allowed the visitors to break the game open and take the score out to 27-40.

The Wolves tried to get themselves back into the game, but were unable to do so to any significant degree as the Giants held on for the all-important victory.

Kestrels close in on semi spot - 4 hours ago
Solent Kestrels have one foot in the National Trophy semi-final following their 93-78 victory at Reading Rockets, on Sunday. The Eastleigh-based side will seal a place in the last four if they beat Kent Crusaders in their final group game. Crusaders and Reading had a wasted afternoon on Saturday, so when Pool 3 will actually finish is unclear. A big crowd at Rivermead saw Kestrels finish the first period with five unanswered points to lead 28-23 at the first break, but despite the visitor...   [read more]
