Peter Simek
Slovakian center Peter Simek (205-C-88, agency: Dynamics Global Management) had an amazing evening in the last round for Surrey Heat, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 31.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds, while his team edged out Plymouth R. (#6, 19-14) 101-99. Surrey Heat maintains the 4th position in British BBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Surrey Heat will need more victories to improve their 21-12 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Simek as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Peter Simek averages this season 6.7ppg and 5.5rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old American Andrew Keister (205-F-88, agency: Interperformances) of Durham W.. Keister had a very good evening with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Durham W. lost that game 92-114 to slightly higher-ranked Manchester G. (#9, 12-21). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Durham W. keeps 10th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-23 record. Keister is a newcomer at Durham W., but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward Darrius Defoe (204-F-84) of league's second-best Newcastle E.. Defoe got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for nine rebounds . Despite Defoe's great performance Newcastle E. lost 75-86 to #1 ranked Leicester R.. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Newcastle E. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 25 victories and 8 lost games. Defoe has a great season in United Kingdom. After 28 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.3rpg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Demetrius Jemison (203-F-87) of Sheffield S. - 20 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Damon Huffman (186-PG-85) of Newcastle E. - 36 points and 3 rebounds
6. Travis Holmes (193-G-86) of Surrey Heat - 27 points and 6 assists
7. Andreas Schreiber (206-C-87) of Plymouth R. - 22 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Ralph Bucci (193-G-75) of Durham W. - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
9. James Jones (193-G/F-83) of Manchester G. - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists
10. Mike Tuck (201-F-83) of Sheffield S. - 18 points and 15 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

London Lions hung on to win the inaugural Betway British Basketball All-Stars Championship, beating Newcastle Eagles 26-25 in the final at The O2, on Sunday. The London outfit were 26-20 up entering the final minute before Jaysean Paige landed a huge five pointer with 20 seconds remaining to give Eagles hope, but the took advantage of the rles which didn't allow Eagles to foul to stop the clock and ran it down to take the title.
