Nizhny Novgorod survived a wild double-overtime clash in Saint Petersburg to advance into the quarterfinal stage. Spartak St.Petersburg cut a 15-point halftime deficit to tie the game at the end of regular time. But they lost double-overtime period 11-11. The best player for the winners was Semen Antonov (202-89, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. American swingman Dijon Thompson (201-83, college: UCLA) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. Four BC Nizhny Novgorod players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) who recorded 25 points and 8 rebounds and Montenegrin power forward Vladimir Dragicevic (206-86) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.

VEF Riga held off BC Astana for the second straight time in Riga to reach the next stage of the competition. BC Astana trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 25 after three quarters before a 28-12 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 67-76 at the end of the game. VEF Riga made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American-Bulgarian guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) who scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Dairis Bertans (192-89) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. Four VEF Riga players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American center David Simon (208-82, college: IPFW) who recorded 20 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jerry Johnson (182-82, college: Rider, agency: Beo Basket) added 18 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
