Maccabi Rishon earned their first ever Winner League title. They edged Hapoel Jerusalem in the championship game tonight. Maccabi Rishon trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 6 points. American power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) stepped up and scored 29 points and 6 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) for the winners and international swingman Shawn Dawson (198-93) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. At the losing side American-Bulgarian point guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) responded with 16 points and 6 assists and American Tony Gaffney (204-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 20 points. Israel selection continued on their winning tradition in the BSL All-Star Game. They outgunned the Imports selection in Eilat to claim the fifth victory in the last six editions of the event. Meir Tapiro (192-PG-75, agency: Avi Zilberman) was named the MVP. Israel led from start to finish in this one. They recorded a 41:25 lead after the first period. The scoreboard read 80:59 at halftime. The foreign all stars pulled within 10 points at the final intermission 94:104. However Israel went on a strong run in the fourth stanza and sealed the victory. Meir Tapiro produced 9 points and 7 assists for Israel. Elishay Kadir (202-PF-87, agency: Avi Zilberman) stepped up with 21 points to lead the scorers. Rosefelt added 15 points for the winners. Maccabi Tel Aviv celebrated the first trophy of the season. The Israeli Cup winners outgunned Hapoel Eilat for Winner Cup title.
