USA claimed fourth straight gold medal at the Olympics. In the Final gam they beat France 87-82 and avenged the loss in the opener a few weeks ago. USA took the lead with a 22-18 run and enjoyed a 5-point halftime advantage. They managed to win the third period 27-24, while France was too far to give up. France made a late, fourth-quarter run, but came up just short as the US made their shots at crucial moments to claim a seventh gold medal out of the last eight on offer.
Kevin Durant (206-SF-88, college: Texas) stepped up with 29 points and Jayson Tatum (203-SF-98, college: Duke) netted 19. Damian Lillard (190-PG-90, college: Weber St.) and Jrue Holiday (193-G-90, college: UCLA) added 11 points each in a win. Australia clinched Olympic Bronze medals. They overpowered Slovenia in the consolation final tonight behind stellar performance from Patrick Mills (183-PG-88, college: St.Mary's, CA). The guard scored 42 points and issued 9 assists to pace the Boomers to the historic Olympic medals.
Australia led by just one point after ten minutes of action 20-19. They erupted for 33 points in the second period to take a 53-45 halftime lead. The Boomers kept their opponents at bay throughout the third term. Australia established an 11-point lead heading into the fourth period. Australia then poured in 29 points in the final stanza and got away with the historic victory. Joe Ingles (203-SF-87) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. USA entered the Final game in Tokyo as they needed a strong third period to beat Australia 97-78 at the Olympic Games.
Australia dominated the first half. They won the first period 24-18 and Patty MILLS gave his team 44-31 in the second frame. USA however was too far to give up and took control of the game in the rest of it. They erupted with a 32-10 surge in the third quarter and then did not allow the opponents to get back into the game.

Unbeaten Slovenia swept past Germany 94-70 to become the first team to reach the Semifinals of the Olympic Games.
Aleksander Sekulic's team started with a 25-14 run and enjoyed a 44-37 halftime advantage. Slovenia dominated the second half as well and posted two more victories. They won the third quarter 22-17 and closed the game with a 28-16 rally.

Spain dropped 21 points in the first period to eke out a 2-point lead. USA responded with a 24-point effort of their own in the second term to tie things up at 43. USA started to take off in the third term. The North American side poured in 26 points in the period to secure a 6-point advantage. USA kept Spain at bay throughout the fourth quarter scoring 26 points and rallying to the victory. Jayson Tatum (203-SF-98, college: Duke) produced 13 points for the winners. France advanced into the semifinal stage of the Olympic basketball tournament. They outgunned Italy in a hard-fought quarterfinal battle today. Rudy Gobert (216-C-92) came up with 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead les Bleues.
Italy opened the game on a hot-shooting taking the lead. The Azzurri ensured a 25-20 advantage heading into the second period. France however picked up the tempo in the second period and managed to eke out a 43-42 halftime lead. Italy went cold offensively in the third period. France capitalised taking a comfortable 10-point lead at the final break. But Simone Fontecchio (203-F-95) ignited a 19-9 run as Italy tied things up at 73 with less than three minutes remaining. Thomas Heurtel (189-PG-89) hit a timely three-pointer and Rudy Gobert followed with two free throws to restore the lead for France. They never looked back afterwards securing a tough victory at the end. Evan Fournier (198-SG-92) delivered 21 points in the victory. Argentina clinched the spot at the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games. They edged Japan 97-77 to finish with a 1-2 record in Group C. Argentina won the opening period 26-16 and led 8 points at the halftime. They added a 19-15 run in the third quarter and nailed massive 32 points in the last stanza.
Luis Scola (206-F/C-80) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds, whilst Facundo Campazzo (180-PG-91) netted 17. They dropped 22 points to enter the fourth quarter up by 7 points 66-59. Germany opened Round 2 with the narrow win over Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. After a slow start, the European side needed a 14-0 run to seal a 99-92 win for 1-1 record. Germany won the first period 24-21, while Nigeria reduced to 50-50 at the halftime as Jordan Nwora (203-F-98, college: Louisville) and Maodo Lo (191-G-92, college: Columbia) exchanged the baskets. Both teams nailed 24 points each in the third period and then it was Germany to take the lead in the last stanza. After being tied at 81-81, they posted a 14-0 run as Andreas Obst bought 95-81 lead. France earned the second straight victory at the Olympic basketball tournament. They knocked down Czech Republic in Tokyo to remain undefeated. Evan Fournier (198-SG-92) had another pivotal performance for les Bleues.
The Czechs went 8/9 behind the arc in the first quarter as Jakub Sirina made two straight to end the period and make give the Czech Republic a 28-22 lead. France, however, quickly recovered in the second period. They nailed 29 points to finish the half with a 51-40 advantage. The French side posted also 26-16 run in the third frame to secure a comfortable win.

Slovenia celebrated the first win at the Olympic Games basketball tournament at the Saitama Super Arena. They easily overcame Argentina 118-100. Slovenia scored 32 points in the first period as Doncic started to shine for his national team. He scored for 53-36 later in the second and brought his team 55-40 lead. Slovenia continued their dominance in the second half as well and won the third period 26-24. Czech Republic looked better in the start of the game and won first two quarters for a 46-30 half-time advantage. Moreover, they added a 21-16 run in the third period for a bigger lead. Iran however dominated the last period and managed to come closer. Jamshidi's 3-pointer got Iran within 80-76, but Blake Schilb (201-G/F-83, college: Loyola, IL) scored on each of the next two Czech possessions to help close out the win.

Italy have won the European battle at the Tokyo Olympics. The last-quarter run allowed them to edge Germany 92-82. Germany dominated the start of the game and nailed 32 points in the first period. Australia celebrated the first win at the Olympic Games basketball tournament. The Aussies rallied past Nigeria in Group B. Patrick Mills (183-PG-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 25 points to pace the winners.
The teams were tied at 23 after ten minutes. Australia eked out a narrow 43-40 halftime lead. They held Nigeria to just 12 points in the third term to open a 6-point lead. Australia then followed with a strong 26-13 run in the fourth frame to roll to the victory. Joe Ingles (203-SF-87) and Dante Exum (198-PG-95) provided 11 points each for the winners. France tipped off their Olympic tournament campaign in a brilliant manner. Les Bleues stunned USA in Group A today. Evan Fournier (198-SG-92) was unstoppable with 28 points for the winners.
USA got to a confident start of the game. The North American side grabbed a 22-15 lead after ten minutes. USA stayed in front throughout the second frame. They arrived at the big break up by 8 points 45-37. But France turned things around in the third quarter. The European team ignited a massive 25-11 rally to surge ahead for a 62-56 lead at the final break. France added 21 points in the fourth quarter and raced to a notable victory at the end. Rudy Gobert (216-C-92) provided 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Nando De Colo (196-G-87) added 13 points for France. Jrue Holiday (193-G-90, college: UCLA) responded with 18 points for USA. Bam Adebayo (208-C-97, college: Kentucky) had 12 points and 10 caroms in the loss.
