Real Madrid's star Luyk, sweeps away CSKA's aspirations-Apr 27, 1965
The final was played in a round-robin format. In the first match we saw a minimal defeat of Real Madrid against a CSKA that did not show the superiority displayed in the same final two seasons ago. The white team missed a great chance to win in Moscow because they were more concerned with the overall score than the match itself. The most dangerous phase came in the 13th minute, when CSKA took their maximum lead (34-21). After Real Madrid's reaction, the gap narrowed again in the 18th minute (44-40), although the replacement of Sevillano by Descartin and a new Russian pull left the score at 48-40 at half-time. In the second half Real Madrid's game improved, and after the successive eliminations of Lipso and Korneev had their big chance to win. However, the slow, conciliatory play of the Madrid players made them settle for a minimal defeat that leaves them with hopes for the return match.

Game 1: Real Madrid - CSKA Moscow - Real Madrid 88-81
CSKA Moscow (coach: Evgenij Alekseev): Armenak Alachachian 8, Aleksandr Travin 14, Gennadij Volnov 26, Yurij Korneev 16, Aleksandar Petrov 6; Arkadij Bochkarev 4, Anatolij Astakhov 2, Viktor Zubkov 2, Vjacheslav Khrynin 3, Jaak Lipso 10, Mikhail Semenov 8.
Real Madrid CF (coach: Joaquin Hernandez): Lolo Sainz 7, Carlos Sevillano 14, Emiliano Rodriguez (187-F/G-1937) 21, Clifford Luyk 14, Bob Burgess 20; Jose Ramon Durand 2, Lorenzo

In the second game the 7-point deficit (88-81) that Real Madrid brought from Moscow was exceeded by twice the margin in the impregnable Fronton 'Fiesta Alegre'. The Whites employed a successful defensive strategy, with flotation on the rival pivot leaving CSKA's point guard Alachachian to play unopposed outside the zone. The Armenian player's performances were not those of a couple of years ago, as he was very slow and fatal on the outside shot. The Soviet team lacked ideas and resources to stop Real Madrid. Vol'nov, their figure and great architect of the triumph in Moscow, was maniatado and was capidisminuido by the personal ones. His exit of the field when committing the fourth personal foul in minute 18 supposed that the white team, that at that moment was losing by two points, escaped in the marker of the hand of Emiliano, so that to the rest Real Madrid already had equalized the eliminatory one (36-29). In the second half, Vol'nov came out again, but soon he lost the fifth staff, so his team buried all its options.
